Operation Barbarossa
Abraham Allison
Most important conflict in WW2
Early in the morning of June, 1941,the attack on Russia began. It was called Operation Barbarossa. German forces scored great victories early in the campaign, driving deep into Soviet Russia, surrounding hundreds or thousands of Soviet troops, and even reaching Moscow later in the year. The German army, exhausted and drained by stubborn soviet defense and counterattacks, attempted to take Moscow. Coupled with the Germans lack if reserves, almost nonexistent winter clothing, and the difficulty if supplying a massive armed force so far from home, the German army was brought to its knees. By December, German forces had been repelled up to 280 miles from Moscow. Operation Barbarossa had failed.
