Louis Armstrong was born on August 4, 1901. He was born in New Orleans, Louisiana. He was a trumpeter, bandleader, singer, soloist, film star and comedian. He was thought of as one of the most influential artists in jazz history. At age 7 he bought his first real horn a cornet. He was a prodigy. He was arrested at age 11 for shooting off his dads hand gun and was later released at age 14. He then began to work odd jobs like selling newspapers and unloading boats on the Mississippi River. Joe King Oliver began acting as a mentor to Louis Armstrong. Joe Oliver was also his favorite musician.
On July 6, 1933, Louis began touring throughout the United States. Years later in February 1952 he began to tour around the world. Louis Armstrong was literally a broken man, suffered a heart attack and died two days after his 70th birthday. On July 8th, more than 30,000 mourners solemnly filed past his casket at the Seventh Regiment Armory.
He was famous for American Jazz. Louis was famous in the time period of the early 20th century. He is known for his trumpet playing. He was also known for his deep voice and charisma.
