Dear Eagles,

This school year will be my fifth year at Martin Middle School and the fourth year as the proud principal. I am excited to share with you the wonderful events and programs continuing this year at Martin MS. I am excited to share that Austin ISD has joined the Verizon Innovative Learning Program to bring 24/7 internet access, chromebooks, and technology coaches to Martin Middle School. Every student will be issued their own chromebook. These chromebooks have their own hotspot. This will ensure all students have access to the internet. This is going to be a game changer for our campus. Stream our orientation on August 8th for further details.

The Innovation Academy at Martin is now offered in all three grade levels. Our students will continue to participate in fun and educational field trips that will open their world to careers and experiences in STEAM fields. The Dual Language program at Martin is also offered in all three grade levels. We have over 125 students that have requested DL programming. We are excited about that.

Martin Middle School will be following Austin ISD's updated dress code. Please see the link below for details.

Martin will still use the grade level colors for school spirit events: burnt orange for 6th grade, maroon for 7th grade, and purple for 8th grade. These colors match the grade level college houses: UT for 6th, Huston Tillotson for 7th, and ACC for 8th. Martin is an Early College Middle School and promoting a college mindset is part of our climate and culture. I am happy to announce that Martin will be offering the AVID elective next year as part of our early college initiative.

Martin is currently under heavy construction. As a result we will be live streaming a New to Martin Orientation on August 8th at 8:30 am. More details will follow. We look forward to meeting our incoming 6th graders and students new to Martin on August 15th during the on site New to Martin Orientation, see below for details.

The official (in person) New to Martin Orientation will be at Martin Middle School on August 15 from 9:30am-11:00am.

Austin ISD has joined Digital Promise and Verizon Innovative Learning, the education initiative of the Verizon Foundation, to equip every student and teacher at Martin Middle School with a device and up to a 5 GB data plan.

We are excited to be a 1-1 technology device campus. Upon completion of the parent training, we will present every student with a 1-1 device. The first 1-1 device training for parents will be hosted on August 15 during the New to Martin Orientation.

The Austin Independent School District has adopted a new dress code policy for the 2019-2020 school year. Martin Middle School is adopting the district's new dress code policy for the 2019-2020 school year. It is our hope, that this decision makes it more feasible for our families. The family resource center will be available for families that are in need of extra support.

4 composition books, any color

Pencil bag or box

12 pencils

2 blue or black pens

1 two-inch binder with a clear cover

3 poly (plastic) folders with brads and pockets (two blue, one any color)

1 package of highlighters

1 pair of scissors

1 package of markers

1 package of color pencils

1 package of glue sticks

1 pair of headphones (for use with student-issued laptop)

1 backpack

Students enrolled in Band, Choir, Orchestra, or Guitar will also need a 1-inch, black binder

Students enrolled in AVID will need one additional two-inch binder with a clear cover and a package of dividers
