7th Grade Math

Students in 7th grade Math completed a shopping spree to wrap up a unit on percents. They pretended the were remodeling a room in their house and needed to buy specific items for that room. Students were given a choice of rooms and required items to purchase for the room that they selected. They had $2500 to spend on their remodel. In shopping, they had to research prices on line for various pre-selected stores and apply discounts to the prices listed, all while ensuring they bought all required items on their lists and stayed within budget. The intent of the project is to help students apply mathematical concepts to real life situations.

2nd Grade Readers

Second graders are exploring using Thinkmarks using Post-it notes. They help make students' reading comprehension and thinking more visible. Thinkmarks require students be actively engaged with the text and make them more accountable during reading. Teachers select one strategy at a time and model with a class read-aloud. Children then practice applying the strategy in guided reading groups or strategy groups. Thinkmarks are great springboards for book discussions.

2nd Grade Meteorologists written by 2nd Grade Teachers

Grab your scarves, hats, gloves, and hopefully snow boots. Our second 2nd graders are learning what it’s like to be a meteorologist. They are using tools to measure weather conditions, follow weather patterns, along with making predictions about the forecast. Participating in hands-on experiments allows our 2nd graders to gain a better understand of weather. Our focus topics include Weather Patterns and Seasonal Changes, The Water Cycle, Cloud Formation, and Tools Meteorologist. Based on the 2nd graders prediction… they say “Bundle Up!”
