Newsletter Week 1 Term 3

Titahi Bay Intermediate School 28th July 2021

Principal's Korero

Welcome to Term 3. We ended last term with an amazing Trophy night and a fantastic turn out of whānau to share in the achievements of our students as well as watch our talented students perform and share their learning. A big congratulations to Alexi MacCormick and Adalayde Marshall-Sopoaga for being excellent hosts for the night.

The term has started well with some students still adjusting to the early morning routines of getting up and coming to school after having a relaxing two week holiday.

We have a number of big events on this term so ensure that you keep a copy of our What's On for Term 3 on your fridge as well as various notifications. We appreciate whānau support with these events whether it is the sharing of our students talents or supporting fundraising events.

We are currently in the process of having a new web site designed for our school along with a new School App. This is in conjunction with our new digital newsletter so that we have a uniformed approach to communicating with our community. We will let you know when these are up and running so that you can make the changes that you need, especially with downloading the new SchoolApp.

Next week we are holding our mid-year Te Ara Kōrero conferences with whānau. Please make sure that you have made a booking to see your child's Maths and English teacher. We are trying something different this year with our students sharing their learning and mid-year report with whānau. Teachers will also have evidence of your child's learning to support where your child is achieving at in regards to the curriculum levels in their report.

If you do not have internet access to make a booking then please ring the school office or come in and the office staff can make a booking for you. Staff will be making contact with whānau who have not yet made a booking as we want as many whānau as we can to come along and discuss where their child is achieving at.

Make a booking at www.schoolinterviews.co.nz and enter code 3zfa5

Looking forward to seeing you all next week.

Make A Space - New school community initiative

For years, Ms Itamura has had an idea where our school community will be able use our facilities after hours. Finally with the support of Allie Rutherford and Adam Powers we are now ready to implement it.

If you have anything that is damaged or a project that requires a workshop environment then this is for you. As we are only starting out, this time will be for whanau of students currently enrolled at TBI. This will start on Monday 9th August between 6.30 p.m. and 8.30 p.m. and will run for 6 weeks.

If this project is popular, there are other tech rooms such as sewing and foods that we could utilise if someone is keen to host or lead in these areas.

Term 2 Trophy Night

Congratulations to all of our students who received awards at our end of term Trophy Night. We had a great turn out of whānau who were able to watch our many performance groups along with some of our students who presented their work in Spanish.

Titahi Bay Intermediate Open Night - New Dates

Ka Ora, Ka Ako - Health School Lunches Term 3

This term there are slight changes in the menu which I have attached to this newsletter. Kapura are currently making variations to this menu due to the products not being available, so the menu may not reflect exactly what they deliver.

Over the past 3 days we have a large number of students who are not even attempting to take a lunch and try it. Those students who have opted in will be provided with their lunch and if they do not consume it we will send it home with them for whānau to eat. Can we please have the containers returned the following day.

Monday - 80 lunches not eaten - Roast Kumara and Corn Salad

Tuesday - 35 lunches not eaten - Meat Pattie burger

Wednesday - 56 lunches not eaten - Ham and lettuce sandwich

We will continue to provide lunches but with the amount being wasted we will have to review our engagement with this programme as the contract ends at the end of this year.
