Next Week
Next Friday we will combine our Community Time to focus on Black History Month and have our annual Chill fest event. In the morning, students will attend 5th and 6th hour then rotate in teacher teams between five different mini lessons and then compete in a Kahoot for prizes at the end. In the afternoon, Student Government will put on their annual Chill Fest. The schedule for the day is here.
African American Read In Opportunities through Oakland Schools
Oakland Schools is proud to host author Derrick Barnes and illustrator/author Vanessa Brantley Newton as our guests for this year's African American Read-In. These award winning authors have a vast collection of books for readers of all ages. The first 500 Oakland County students who register will receive one of their books.
Date: Thursday, February 16, 2023
Time: 6:00 - 8 pm
Location: Virtual via Zoom
You'll receive a confirmation email that includes the event's Zoom link -- keep an eye out for that information in your email inbox. You can find more information about the National African American Read-In here: https://ncte.org/get-involved/african-american-read-in/. Please contact stacey.lamb@oakland.k12.mi.us with any questions.
Second Semester Activity Fee
If you have not already done so, please make sure to get your second semester activity fee of $40 to Mrs. Kelly. Remember, our field trips and community time events are dependent on the activity fee and without them, we will not be able to go on our last field trip in the spring.
College Update
Students can begin meeting with Mrs. Bellairs to discuss summer and fall at OCC.
Summer schedule opens on February 27 and registration opens on March 8.
Summer classes are always optional, but students should take advantage of the opportunity, especially if their goal is to earn an associates degree. Classes must start by June 15th in order for OEC to pay for the course.
Fall schedule opens on March 17 and registration opens on March 29.
Students need to schedule 2 meetings with an OCC counselors, one for summer and one for fall.
