***This is a family event, NO student drop off.***

Spring Book Fair May 15th - 19th - volunteers still needed

The spring book fair has arrived!!! Students will be able to shop during their normal library time. Please send cash, checks made out to “PV PTA” or add funds to an eWallet at https://bookfairs.scholastic.com/bf/pleasantvalleymiddleschool2

We still have a great need for volunteers to staff the book fair. Please click the volunteer link to see what time slots still need to be filled. Volunteer as much or as little time as you are able! Thank you for helping to provide this opportunity to our students!

Requirements to Volunteer

We are in need of volunteers to check out students. Since this event takes place during school hours, all volunteers must be background checked and cleared through the school district. In addition, in order to work the cash register you must be a current PTA member. Joining only takes a few minutes, and does not commit you to volunteering, fundraising, or coming to PTA meetings. It is simply a formality in order to handle money on the PTA’s behalf. A sign up link for specific book fair time slots will be released in mid April.

Please visit pleasantvalleypta.org/membership to learn more and join the PTA today. There is a nominal $12 fee to cover the costs of your registration with the WA State PTA.

If you have not yet been cleared by BGSD, please visit www.battlegroundps.org/volunteer/ to start the process. It can take 7-10 days to complete your background check once you present your ID at a school.

Congratulations to the PVM Jr. ROTC team!

We would like to congratulate our PVM Jr. ROTC team for bringing home the first place trophy from their recent Annual Drill Competition Championship. Your hard work paid off and you brought home the championship trophy to the PVM trophy case. Way to make Pleasant Valley proud!

Student attire expectations reminder

Hello Pleasant Valley families.

With the weather starting to give us some warmer, sunny days, we would like to remind everyone of the Battle Ground School District's student attire expectations while at school and on the bus. Full attire expectations may be found in the district and PVM family/student handbooks (handbooks are linked at the bottom of this newsletter).

Highlights are:

  • All areas shaded in on the Appropriate Wear Zone diagram should be fully covered, with no rips/tears/holes in clothing in those areas.
  • Undergarments and cleavage should be covered/not showing
  • Shorts/skirts/dresses should be mid-thigh or longer, no short-shorts
  • Clothing must cover the Appropriate Wear Zone areas when sitting, standing, reaching, bending etc. at all times.
  • Footwear should be appropriate to the activity and must be worn at all times, to avoid injury

When they are all sold, we will not be getting more.

Yearbooks are $20. You may pay by cash (exact change is appreciated, we do not have a change box), or check - made out to PVM. Payment must be made at the time you place your order.

We will receive a limited number of yearbooks, so order early to ensure you get one!

Notes from the Nurse - end of year medication pick up

Hello PVM families!

With the end of the year approaching we want to remind parents that all medications in school must be picked up by the last day of school, June 16th. Any medication left at the school will have to be disposed of after the last day. Medication can be picked up between the hours of 7:30 AM-3:15 PM M-F. Please keep an eye out for students bringing letters home regarding medication pick-up and medications in school next year. 6th grade families can expect a letter regarding required vaccinations for 7th grade.

State testing in May

SBA state testing window has arrived. Dates scheduled for each test are listed below.

Test dates

* May 16, 18, 23, 25 Smarter Balanced testing - all grades.

SBA testing will be the first 2.5 hours of the school day.

  • We will be testing the first two and a half hours on each of the SBA test dates.

We hope that this advance notice will help to avoid having schedule conflicts with other appointments during those times, so students are able to be in school during the testing blocks.

Students will not be allowed to use electronic devices (other than Chromebooks) during the test and may not use any wireless devices, such as air pods or mice. Any earbuds or headphones used during the test must be wired earbuds/headphones. Electronic devices and any wireless devices will need to be turned off and put away the entire time any students are testing; as is standard school-day protocol for cell phones/airpods.

If there is an emergency and you need to contact your student, as with all days, you may contact the school office at 360-885-5500 and we will get a message to your child or get them to the phone.

ASB campaigning

It is almost time for ASB campaigning for our 2023/2024 school year ASB officers. Interested candidates will be required to attend a mandatory meeting during first period on Wednesday, May 17th. Come find out what ASB student leadership is all about and how you can be part of it.

All required forms must be submitted by the end of the day on Friday, May 26th.

ASB candidate packets are available at the PVM school office.

8th grade celebration - VOLUNTEERS NEEDED!

In order to plan and run a celebration for our outgoing 8th grade class, we need parent volunteers. Any celebration outside a school assembly, such as a drive through celebration or party, must be planned and run by parents. When we are able to gather a large group of parent volunteers, the work is divided such that no one person is committed to a large amount of time to help put on a fun celebration event.

If you are willing to offer your skills and time to plan and implement the 8th grade celebration, please contact: Stacy Crain at stacycrain82@gmail.com .

Thank you for your consideration.

Clark County Youth Commission - youth advisory board applications, due by June 1st

The Clark County Youth Commission, an official youth advisory board to the Clark County Council, is seeking youth from all walks of life to join its group for the next school year. Please visit the Clark County Youth commission webpage to view information about this wonderful opportunity, click here to navigate to the webpage.

The Youth Commission wants to be even more intentional about reaching out to youth who are currently underrepresented or unrepresented in the group and extend an invitation for those youth to apply to join the board.

It is our hope you will look closely at the extraordinary young people you know, whether they’re in your class or somewhere else around Pleasant Valley Middle School, or in other parts of your community, and ask: Who hasn’t yet had an opportunity to have a leadership role in their community? Who has experienced things their peers haven’t and/or has a unique point of view? Who needs to know their voice is valued? Who are the deep thinkers? Who has a lot to offer? Please considering sharing this opportunity with these young people. The group continuously strives to be more representative of the diversity of youth living in Clark County.

Between now and June 1, we are actively recruiting for Youth Commission members to fill 13 vacancies throughout Clark County:

· All open positions are available for youth who live in Clark County.

· New Leader positions are available for youth with no previous leadership experience.

· We have some positions open to students living in the geographical boundaries of specific school districts as the Youth Commission uses school district boundaries to ensure broad representation of youth from all areas of the county.

More information about the Youth Commission and applications to apply can be found at: Click here to navigate to the Clark County Youth Commission webpage. The application is available in Word, PDF, and Google Forms.

Battle Ground Public Schools’ Family and Community Resource Center (FCRC) helps meet the needs of families faced with housing instability and similar economic challenges.

While a main goal of the FCRC is to assist families experiencing housing instability, it can also help connect families with many other types of resources and is intended to respond to the changing needs of the community.

The FCRC is a continuation of the district’s joint efforts with the Battle Ground Education Foundation, an all-volunteer, nonprofit community organization whose purpose is to leverage community resources to help maintain quality education for all students in Battle Ground schools.

The Family Resource Guide is full of contacts to aid families in connecting with agencies who are able to help with a great variety of needs. Please click the link below to view this helpful guide.
