TONIGHT is our INTERNATIONAL FESTIVAL

Tonight we all come together and celebrate one another's traditions, foods and cultures. We want to extend a sincere thank you to all who made this possible and continue this important experience at our school. Mouth watering foods will be offered, along with informational and informative stations for student involvement.

We hope to see you all there!

The PIglet Mindset Experience

Today, Piglet and his pack visited Middlebrook! Grade 3 students gathered in the gym to meet Piglet, hear from his owner, Dr. Melissa Shapiro, and learn all the ways Piglet has helped children learn about resiliency, inclusivity and kindness. Following the assembly, Piglet and friends paraded around the school greeted by our enthusiastic staff and students. Students in other grade levels spent the week learning about Piglet through text and lessons provided by their teachers.

If your family would like to learn more about this very special pack of dogs, visit https://www.pigletmindset.org/.

SBA Schedule

Smarter Balanced Assessments began this week for students in grades 3-5. The SBA Assessment exposes students to Common Core English/Language Arts questions and Mathematics problems. In addition to the SBA assessments, our students in grade 5 will be taking the NGSS Science Field Test.

Remaining SBA Testing Schedule

Grades 3 - 5

Math

5/2, 5/3 & 5/4

Science Testing - Grades 5

NGSS - Science Field Test

5/9 and 5/10 (if needed)

We hope students will not be absent during the testing period, except for illness, and that they will strive to do their very best.

Students have been working hard all year and have been exposed to test-like items, testing language, vocabulary, and the format of the platform in order to ease anxiety and build familiarity with the assessment.

Here are some ways you can help us from home:

  • Make sure your child arrives at school on time. If he or she is late, your child will not be able to enter the classroom until testing is done for the day. A make-up test will be given at another time by one of the specialists so your child will miss classroom instruction.

  • Make sure your child has a nutritious breakfast.

  • Make sure your child gets plenty of sleep. Children can’t do their best work when they are tired.

  • Tell your child to remember past tests where he or she did well and remind your child that he or she can do well again!

  • Reassure your child. Let your child know that all you expect is his or her best effort.

If you would like to learn more about the Smarter Balanced assessments, you can log onto: www.smarterbalanced.org.

In addition to the SBA state assessments, we will be administering our district iReady assessments in mid-May to early June.

All the Best,

Ms. Ponte

Moving/Changing Schools?

If you will be moving / changing schools for the 2023-24 school year, please let your child's classroom teacher and the Middlebrook office know. This will help make a smooth transition for your child and allow time for staff to prepare necessary paperwork.
