UPCOMING PARENT/TEACHER CONFERENCES

Over the next couple of weeks, your child’s teacher will be communicating details of upcoming parent/teacher conferences. During this time, teachers are encouraged to share areas of success as well as the areas for growth. Parents, you are encouraged to do the same. Talk to your child’s teacher about ways you can partner to help your child grow. Through transparent conversations, goals should be discussed and established. Together, we are your child’s support team. It is our hope that these important meetings are not simply to “check a box” but spur every student to greater academic and social-emotional success.

2ND GRADE COGAT & IOWA TESTING

2nd Grade Parents: During the week of October 16th-20th, your children will be taking the Cognitive Aptitude Test (CogAT) & Iowa Assessments. Please make sure students get plenty of sleep and eat a nutritious breakfast each morning. These assessments are used to qualify for gifted and talented identification and possible admission to the Charles Townes Center Program. If at all possible, do not schedule medical or other appointments on these days. We encourage all students to arrive on time so testing can begin on time. Please contact your child's teacher or Mrs. Jordan with any questions.

PTA Membership

Have you ever wondered what a Parent Teacher Association (PTA) Membership actually involves? Some people may wonder if they are signing themselves up to be school volunteers throughout the year or to serve on the PTA Board. While there will be plenty of opportunities to volunteer for different events throughout the year, your membership helps create an engaging learning environment for students and teachers throughout the school year. AJW PTA strives to enhance and support educational experiences, encourage parental involvement, and improve the environment for students and teachers through volunteer support and memberships.

Everyone—parents, educators, students and other community members—is invited to join our not-for-profit PTA. The number one reason to join the PTA is to benefit the student. In doing so, you also help AJ Whittenberg. Join TODAY for only $5! https://ajwhittenbergpta.memberhub.com/store
