NEWS FROM DR. CHAUSSEE

Covid update 10/8


As of today, we have nine covid cases including eight classrooms that are masking. Parents in each classroom will always be informed, but school wide emails do not happen with each class that starts to mask. We hope to avoid another class shutting down again.


Due to the numbers and possible exposures, the PTO decided to cancel fun nights the remainder of the semester and Halloween parties will go on but without parents. At this point, the kids will be allowed to wear costumes unlike last year at this time.


PARENT TEACHER CONFERENCES

This information has been provided in the past with a few changes. October conferences are the 7th, 12th, and 13th and they are a great opportunity to meet face to face with your child’s teacher. The following suggestions might make for a more productive conference:

You may want to ask your child’s teacher:

  • Does my child participate in classroom activities?

  • Does my child know the math facts?

  • Does she/he have self-control in the classroom?

  • How does my child get along with others?

  • Does my child read in his/her spare time?

  • How well does my child comprehend what she/he read?

  • How well does she/he write?

  • Does my child appear to be happy at school?

You may want to tell your child’s teacher:

  • Which school activities your child talks about at home.

  • If anything has happened lately at home that might affect your child at school.

  • What you see as some of your child’s strengths and weaknesses.

Hopefully this finds you doing well. With conferences coming up soon, I wanted to let you know that I am available to talk to you. I will be available to meet with families in person on October 7th from 4:00 - 6:15 and on October 12 from 6:15 - 8:15. I will also be available to meet with you via Zoom on October 7th and 12th from 4:00 - 8:00. HAPPENING IN THE CLASSROOM


This month our classroom counseling lessons in grades K-5 will focus on skills of resiliency, coping skills and how to get help for oneself and/or a friend. These lessons are intended to educate students on feelings of stress, worry, sadness, how to cope with such feelings, and how to ask for help if needed. Please talk with your child about these feelings, and reinforce appropriate coping strategies such as talking with a trusted adult, exercising, or doing an activity they enjoy. Please send reusable water bottles every day to school with your child.

ROOM PARENTS NEEDED

PTO is looking for more room parents! We need 4-5 people per classroom to organize the Halloween and Valentine’s Day parties and plan special recognitions for their teachers.
