Tiger Time News
News from the O.C. Taylor Principal, Lisa Young
Young@Heart, Dec. 4, 2016
This past Friday we had Rule the School Day. Click here to see the digital version of Tiger Time News prepared by our Rule the School Participants! Thank you to the parents who bid on having your child be Teacher of the Day. Mrs. Putman and I found our future replacements: Principal Rachel Neil and Assistant Principal Maggie Pollock! These young ladies ran a faculty meeting, observed in classrooms, prepared the digital version of Tiger Time News, had lunch in the lounge with all of the "teachers," and ran the school. They also created a solution to a problem we have noticed. Parents bring lunches to students in the middle of the day and put them in the baskets in the front foyer. Occasionally, a lunch was still there at the end of the day as no one had picked it up. We will be putting a white board by the cafeteria for names to be listed of those that have delivered lunches to pick up. Thank you for solving this problem, Miss Neil and Miss Pollock!
We are excited to enter the most wonderful time of the year here at O.C. Taylor! We have some fun events to help create special memories for your children. We hope your holiday season is filled with joy and peace! As always, my email inbox is open.
To the greatest of days,
Principal Young and Principal Neil

O.C. Taylor's Newly Recovered Blacktop #SafetyFirst
In order to take care of our newly refinished basketball court, we will not be able to use the blacktop to park during school-wide events as to protect the asphalt and to ultimately keep our children safe. Therefore, we will have the good fortune of getting extra exercise by walking from Compass Church or the Compass Center. We thank you in advance for your understanding!
Grace Christmas Cottage
We are continuing our tradition of our O. C. Taylor Holiday Tree with just a few small changes. We will have our Tiger Tree with paws on the tree. Families are invited to choose a paw on the tree with a specific item listed on the paw, purchase the item on the paw, and then return the item to school which will then be donated to the GRACE Christmas Cottage.
GRACE sets up a store for parents who qualify to come and choose toys and items for their children in need. They are given the items, wrapping paper and cookies. O. C. Taylor TTT is partnering with GRACE to assist in this project for Grapevine.
Grapevine Relief And Community Exchange (GRACE) is a Grapevine, Texas-based non-profit relief agency which provides food, clothing, financial assistance and other vital necessities to people who are struggling with a limited income or recent emergency. The philosophy of GRACE is that encouraging self-sufficiency will, in turn, encourage community cohesiveness. Compassion and assistance are offered as a response to God's grace by local churches in partnership with municipalities, businesses, civic organizations and individuals.
4th Grade Collected the Most Turkeys for the Turkey Drive! Parents' Night Out!
Fourth grade collected the most turkeys for our turkey drive! This means that your fourth-grade child is invited to come to school on Tuesday, December 13, 6:00-8:00 for Parents' Night Out! We will show The Secret Life of Pets and provide popcorn and bottled water.
Just a couple of notes.......
1. Mr. Kiehn, Mrs. Whisman, and Mrs. Knudson will be supervising.
2. This is for fourth grade students only. Please do not plan to leave other siblings.
3. We will be in the cafeteria.
4. Whenever you drop off your child, you will need to come with them to the cafeteria in order to sign them in.
5. Whenever you pick them up at 8:00 sharp, you will need to come to the cafeteria in order to sign them out.
Thanks again for your donation! We hope that this will be a fun way to show our appreciation!

A Note from our librarian, Mrs. Bonacci
A Note from Music, Mrs. Vencil
'Tis the season to be jolly...and busy! Our 4th and 5th grade Taylor Tiger Choir is hard at work preparing songs, speaking part, props and costumes for 2 special holiday performances. Please join us at the Colleyville Tree Lighting Ceremony, Friday, Dec. 2 at 6:30 p.m. on the steps of City Hall for a fun, free family event. Click here here for more information. The Choir will also perform their musical, North Pole Exposure, Thursday, Dec. 8 at 8:30 a.m. and 6:30 p.m. in the OCT cafeteria. Hope to see you there!
4th grade students will spend the rest of the school year learning to play the recorder. Students are responsible for bringing their instruments and books to music every day. We use the Recorder Karate method, and students will earn 'karate belts' with the mastery of each new song. Click here for more information on 4th grade recorders.
All of our Tigers will enjoy singing songs to celebrate different December holidays and adding rhythmic accompaniment on percussion instruments or melodic accompaniment on Orff instruments (xylophones, metallophones and glockenspiel). Fa la la la la...
A Note from P.E., Coach Mester and Coach Mac
Wow, the school year is really flying by quickly. We just wrapped up our Jump Rope For Heart fundraiser, where we collected an amazing $11,000.00 for the American Heart Association. The kids had a blast jumping and raising money for such a worthy cause.
We have begun our basketball unit and are progressing into some lead-up gameplay. We have been spending most of our time practicing skills such as dribbling, passing, and shooting. Moving forward we will discuss strategies, offense, and defense.
After basketball we intend to introduce beginning volleyball skills and play a student favorite, Newcomb. Newcomb is played with a volleyball and volleyball net, but has the students catching and throwing the ball over the net. While the games are fun and competitive, we will be stressing sportsmanship and what it means to be a good teammate
A Note from Art, Mrs. Morgan
3rd and 4th grade are currently finishing up their leaf zentangle designs by adding warm colored watercolor pencils.
5th grade is currently finishing up their Soaring Valor Challenge Coin design art contest for the district. Once they are done, we will continue our zentangle pumpkin designs
Kindergarten- 2nd grade will be exploring winter landscapes and winter themed art.
Once 3rd-5th grade is done with their leaves and pumpkins, they will start their winter themed artwork.

Technology Tips: Webville Outlaws
LOOK-AT-DIS LOISE was the first week. POTTY-MOUTH PETE was last week's web outlaw.
This week we are talking about WANTA-KNOW WALLY is a snoop. He wants to get your private information such as last name, address, phone number, credit card, and more. Always tell an adult if you are asked for private information when you are on the internet. It’s important to always tell a TRUSTED ADULT if you run into a Wanta-Know Wally, and it’s never okay to tell private information!
NetSmartz Kids has excellent information for students – videos, games, and more. The site is developed by the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children and has age-appropriate resources to help keep children safe online as well as off-line.
