Viera Elementary Happenings
November 14, 2022
Welcome to Viera Elementary
During the Thanksgiving season, when we traditionally take time to give thanks, I write to express my personal gratitude. Thank you to our parents and guardians for having faith in Viera Elementary and for trusting us with your beautiful children. Your children come with strong values, respect, tolerance, and appreciation. Thank you for your commitment to ensuring their success and our school's success. I am thankful for our students who come to school every day ready to learn – they give us all a daily reminder of what is important and why we are here. I am thankful for our staff who really care about students and have the best interests of our students at heart. I am also thankful for our volunteers who enthusiastically contribute so much to our school. I would like to wish all of you and your families a happy, healthy and relaxing Thanksgiving holiday!
Morning Mile will take place again this week starting Tuesday!
We hope you have a wonderful year here at Viera Elementary. Please reach out anytime you have a question or concern.

Root of the Week
Root of the Week: Word Superstars. Each week we will share a new root on the morning announcements. Students are encouraged to use words with this root. In fact, if teachers or staff catch a student using a word with the root, they can give them a ticket. They can fill out the ticket and put it in the box that will be in the cafeteria. At the end of the week we will draw five tickets out to recognize our Word Superstars. They will receive a special spirit tag that says “Word of the Week Superstar”.
This week’s root will be “photo” which is the Greek root for light.

Project Tomorrow's Speak Up Survey
Brevard Public Schools is once again joining other districts around the country in surveying teachers, parents, and students through Project Tomorrow's Speak Up Survey.
The Speak Up Research Project is a national research project that assists education leaders in including the voices of students, faculty, parents, and the community in annual and long-term planning regarding the use of technology for learning. These results are shared with local, state, and national policymakers and utilized to make strategic decisions about technology purchases and instructional technology integration within BPS.
This year. the Speak Up survey will be open from November 7 to November 28, 2022, for student,
parent, and faculty participation. The link will be published to the Focus Portal for all teachers, parents, and students. Please use the link below to complete this survey!
Lunch with your Student
Beginning, the week of September 6, parents will be able to eat lunch on campus with their child one day a week. This will be each Wednesday and spots will be limited, so parents must sign up in advance at https://signup.com/go/hefokio. Additionally, there are some guidelines which must be followed to ensure the safety and well-being of everyone on campus:
- · Parents must be on time for their child’s scheduled lunch time.
- · Parents must communicate with their child’s teacher that they will be coming to lunch on that day.
- · Parents must sign in at the front office and then will be escorted to the cafeteria to meet their child if they are not a registered volunteer.
- · There will be a designated table that the parent and student will sit at, this will not be with the class.
- · Parents may only have lunch with their child, no exceptions will be allowed.
- · While having lunch with your child, no cameras or phones taking pictures are permitted to protect the privacy of other students and families.
- · We strongly encourage younger siblings to stay home as we will have limited seating available.
- · Visitors/Volunteers are expected to dress appropriately when visiting campus.
- · Once your child’s lunch is over, they will promptly join their class to dismiss. Parents are not able to follow their child/the class back to the classroom and will sign out in the front office.
