HEART GRAMS SALE
The Ebeling Sixth Grade is trying to make Valentine’s Day a little nicer for the people here at Ebeling!
The “Happy Heart Gram” program will involve students purchasing a gram for $1.00 each and having it sent to another student or staff member at Ebeling to be delivered on Valentine’s Day. Each gram will be accompanied by a peanut/tree nut safe Valentine treat! Proceeds from the sale will be applied towards funding bus transportation to 6th grade camp this Spring.
The students may purchase these special messages by returning them (with $1.00 for each one) Monday, February 7th through Friday, February 11th. Sixth graders will come around to the classrooms to collect them and will sell additional grams at that time.
A gram is available to download below for your use, and a paper copy will be sent home as well. If you are interested, please fill out the top portion with who the gram is going to, first and last name. Also include their classroom teachers name and return it to school (with $1.00) in an envelope to the attention of 6th grade Happy Heart- Gram Sale. If you need additional grams, there will be extras in the front office!
Thank you and a very Happy Valentine’s Day to you and your family!
WINTER PARENT CONFERENCES RESCHEDULED - NEW DATE!
If you were scheduled for a conference with your child's teacher this past week, the teacher will reach out to you and confirm your availability on February 10th at the same time of your original conference. Of course, arrangements will be made for those who may have a conflict with the new date.

PTA MEETING DATE CHANGED
2022 Kindergarten Open House
Please join us for our kindergarten Open House on Thursday, March 24, 2022 at 7 p.m. at all UCS elementary buildings. Come get a glimpse at the educational opportunities that await your child at Utica Community Schools. Learn about our kindergarten and Young Fives Program, meet our building administrators and teachers, and see our schools for yourselves.
MACOMB COUNTY QUARANTINE GUIDELINES
Recent changes were made regarding how UCS will approach the isolation and quarantine of students and staff for in-school exposure. The most important pieces have remained the same:
- Keep those who are sick home
- Staff/families must report positive COVID-19 cases and isolation/quarantine remains at five days
- The district will notify families of positive cases in school buildings
- Cases will continue to be reported on the district’s COVID-19 Dashboard
Individuals will not be identified through contact tracing; instead the entire class where a positive case was reported will be notified of the potential exposure.
- All students and staff in the impacted classroom should monitor for symptoms.
- Those who have or develop symptoms should isolate/quarantine and test for COVID-19.
- Others may quarantine individually but are not required to unless symptoms develop.
The MCHD website reflects the new protocols.
Your partnership remains critical. Families should continue to self-screen every morning and students that do not feel well should remain at home.
UCS Wellness Podcast
The UCS Wellness team is happy to announce the second episode of our podcast series. The team worked with community members to create a podcast regarding different areas of physical, mental, and social health for UCS staff, students and families. These podcasts are available on the UCS Wellness page. UCS Wellness - Utica Community Schools (uticak12.org)
Oftentimes when loss occurs, whether it be through death or beyond death entirely, grief is experienced by those impacted by the loss. Yet, the grieving process is unique to each individual, including children experiencing grief.
This episode of the UCS Wellness Podcast explores the different levels of grief and how we can cope as well as what to look for to help identify grief in children. We called on SandCastles Grief Support Program, a free, local community-based program to help us with the topic of grief. This episode features Malow Junior High School counselor, April Raupp, speaking with SandCastles program supervisor, Michele Kreft, LMSW.
UCS BOARD OF EDUCATION MEETING SCHEDULE
LUNCHROOM HELPERS NEEDED!
We have openings for lunch supervisors at school daily. The lunch supervisors work both inside the lunchroom (helping students open lunch items, handing out napkins, etc) and supervising at recess (indoors or out), and typically work between 1.5 and 2 hours daily. Accommodations can be made for those wanting to work less than 5 days per week as well!
Those interested - please call the school office to request information on how to apply.
ATTENDANCE POLICY
ABSENCE
- If your child is going to be absent call 586-797-4799 and leave us a message.
Your child will be excused from class for illness, bereavement, recognized religious holidays and medical or dental treatment that cannot be scheduled after school or on weekends.
Your child is responsible for makeup work. Homework requests may be made for an absence of two or more days in the case of both excused and pre-excused absences. Homework requests require 24 hours to process.
VACATION POLICY
- Absence for family travel during scheduled school days is discouraged.
However, should family travel be necessary, parents must submit a written request to the teacher or principal for a pre-excused absence at least one week in advance.
Arrangements to complete classroom assignments can be made with the teacher. You can arrange for home study through the school principal should your child be absent from school for an extended period due to physical disability or illness.
LATE ARRIVAL
- If a student arrives late to school, the parent must accompany the student into the office, and the student must be signed in before he or she can go to class.
