Parking Lot Safety
The safety of Rising Star students is one of our top priorities. One place where we want to assure safety is our parking lots.
To help us assure students arrive safely, we ask parents to use one of the following options:
- Please use the circle drive to drop off.
- Please park and walk your child to the sidewalk.
To further assure the safety of students, we are asking that parents not use these options:
- Please do not allow your child to walk across the parking lot alone.
- Please do not drop off in the parking lot, without parking and walking your child to the sidewalk.
We want to thank all of our wonderful Rising Star parents ahead of time for helping us assure a safe start to each day!

EVENT INFO
FOOD SERVICE….Did you know…………
Did you know there are Nutrition Standards for All Foods Sold in School called ‘Smart Snacks in Schools’? The guidelines went into effect July 1, 2014. The law has specific nutrition standards for all foods and beverages sold to students outside the school meal programs; on the school campus; and at any time during the school day. This includes foods and beverages sold a la carte in the cafeteria, in school stores, at snack bars, through fundraising, from vending machines or any other venues that sell food to students – including coffee shops and bake sales. The school day is defined from the midnight before, to 30 minutes after the end of the instructional school day. For more information, please visit the Smart Snacks section of the SMSD Food Service webpage.
The Alliance for a Healthier Generation Smart Snacks Product Calculator can be used for food and beverage items to determine if they meet the nutrition standards. Print off the results page summary along with a copy of the product’s label for documentation. This documentation should be submitted to the school’s nurse to request approval for a fundraising event.
Don’t forget – if your child receives free or reduced meals, they are eligible for one breakfast and one lunch per day as part of this benefit. All breakfast and lunch meal choices are available for all students regardless of eligibility status.
The school breakfast menus, lunch menus, and other nutrition information are available on the district’s website at http://foodservices.smsd.org.
Families,
Please take a moment to double check if you have any library books that are overdue and return them with you child as soon as possible!
Thank you SO much for your continued donations for the library! We have reached out goals on Glue Guns and Boxes! This has helped us reach our projects to their full potential! Here are current needs still in the library:
- Empty Toilet Paper/Paper Towel Rolls! (These make great tubes!)
- Pipe Cleaners / Chenille Stems (Green if possible!)
- Colored Tissue Paper (Bright Colors)
Thank you so much for your continued support in the library! Please do not forget to spend plenty of time reading with your child over spring break!
