Road to Success Weekly Spotlight
Adventure Awaits! Explore the Possibilities of Learning!
Thank you so much to all of our teachers/staff for ensuring that we have a safe end to the school day! This first week was close to perfect during afternoon dismissal because of your EFFORTS!
This week's Road to Success Shout-Out goes to our car rider dismissal teachers. The car rider dismissal process is unique and takes a lot of EFFORT to perfect the timing. Mrs. Melendez, Coach Strickland, Mrs. Verseckes, Mrs. B. Wilson, and Mrs. Chappell, lead the way with organizing the efforts of safely walking and delivering over 200 students to hundreds of cars. This process takes about 15 minutes once it is perfected. Did I mention that the temperatures have reached over 100 degrees during dismissal!
Additionally, the following teachers have been patient with the extended dismissal time, with the first two days taking about 15 extra minutes to complete. (Ms. Tijerina, Ms. Thompson, Ms. Johnson, Ms. Jimenez, Ms. Villarruel, Mrs. Grulich, Ms. K. Smith, Ms. Meyer, Ms. McGee, and Ms. Sawyer).
Please join me in thanking the car rider dismissal teachers for extending their day to ensure that our car rider dismissal process results in the safe end to the school day! The Road To Success Spotlight this week is on them!
Excellence in Instruction Spotlight
Writing Across the Content Areas!
It is so exciting to observe teachers implementing instructional strategies learned in professional development. This week's Excellence in Instruction Spotlight is on the teachers who have already implemented strategies learned in the "Writing Across Content Areas" professional development led by our Writing Interventionist Leader, Mrs. S. Smith! Thank you Mrs. Smith, for highlighting these awesome teachers! Check out the pictures of these exceptional teachers implementing writing strategies in various content areas.

B.O.Y. Testing - Intervention Tutoring
Teachers,
We have quite a few Guzick Giants who are in need of instructional support in the form of intervention. Intervention can occur during the school day in small groups, and/or after school during tutoring. This week is the time to complete B.O.Y. assessment, review and analyze prior year assessment data, and determine students who need intense support. The instructional leadership team will be providing additional guidance this week to help prepare for intervention tutoring if your students will benefit from this extra time and if you would like to take advantage of this opportunity.
Reminder: Attendance Reporting
Building Closing Time
Teacher/Staff,
Just a reminder that the building closes each day at 7:30pm. Please plan accordingly.
PBIS Daily Lessons
Please reference your PBIS Teacher Handbook with the calendar and lessons for this week. It is so important for us to speak the same language and be consistent with our behavioral expectations for ALL of our Guzick Giants. All lessons should be taught the first 20-30 minutes of each day for the next 12 days. If you have any questions or need assistance, please let me or a PBIS Team member know.
Day 6 Lesson: Playground
Day 7 Lesson: Emergency (changed-please reference the email that Mrs. Paz will send out with emergency drill procedures).
Day 8 Lesson: Arrival/Dismissal
Day 9 Lesson: Restroom
Day 10 Lesson: Hallway
Afternoon Dismissal
We should have documented now every student's afternoon dismissal type (daycare/bus/car/walker). Parents/Guardians can only change dismissal by confirming the change with the student's teacher or the front office verbally or in written form. Students ARE NOT allowed to change their own dismissal type. For example, if a student says, "my mama said I am a bus rider today." If the mama DID NOT confirm this with you in writing or by calling, then the original dismissal is to be used. Please do your due diligence to call a parent to confirm the change if a student says otherwise.
It is imperative that EVERY teacher is on afternoon duty until 3:15pm. On duty means being at your post until the last student is either picked up, walks home, or is escorted to the Parent Center/Cafeteria as a late pick-up.
Past Due Reminder: Breakfast in the Classroom
Your certificate should be with Mrs. Willis as of this past Friday. If you have not turned in your certificate, please do so as soon as possible. Thank you!
Please remember to complete your Breakfast in the Classroom Training. The link is below. Upon successful completion of the short quiz, please submit a copy of your completion certificate to Mrs. Willis for your personnel file. Please note that the training is not accessible outside of Dallas ISD. You must be in-network to access the training and quiz.
The training should be completed and certificate submitted no later than Friday, August 24, 2018.
