Tips and Tricks from Student Council Members
- Turn in attendance so you are counted present. The attendance is how your teachers know you're here. Especially when there is no assignment or that day except for joining the zoom. Now you're probably thinking can’t the teachers just tell that I am on here because I am on the zoom. Well if you haven’t realized there are a lot of kids in the zooms and your teachers can’t see all of you. Take the 10 seconds to do the attendance. It is very important.
- Your teachers are to help you. Make sure to email your teachers if you have any questions or problems, and they would rather have you email them then not do the assignment or do the assignment wrong.
- Give yourself a break every now and then. Maybe every time you complete an assignment, take a five minute break. If you have time in between classes, eat a snack, take a break, and go outside for some fresh air.
- Put away all distractions and devices. I know that a lot of people like me like to go onto their phones during the school day. But put it away! If you're on a zoom call and your teachers are explaining things you might not be able to do both and listen to your teachers explaining things.
- Join ALL of your zoom/google meet meetings. Your teachers explain EVERYTHING in these meetings. If you have any questions your teachers will definitely answer them here. Also if you have a zoom/google meet call right before a big test then your teachers will probably review with you what the test is going to be like so that you will be sure to get 100%!
- TAKE YOUR TIME! You have way more time now that you're at home.
- Make a goal. It is much easier to do your assignments when there is a goal to accomplish. When you reach that goal, give yourself a reward, like a break or snack.
- Use the multiple attempts. If your teacher gives you multiple attempts take them the best score you get is what is turned in.
- STUDY! Even though we're at home you can still study. A lot of kids think oh I just got off of my last class for today I am done with school. Before you go and watch video games or binge watch shows on Netflix this to yourself do I have a test the next day? Is there something I should be preparing for? If the answer is yes then go and study for about 15-30 minutes. You will feel more prepared and you will most likely do better on your test.
- Get some physical exercise. Yes, we're at home so we can just go and do whatever we want. But some physical activities can help with everything. It’s proven that someone will be able to pay attention more and do better on quizzes and tests if they get some physical activity.
- Follow your schedule, have alarms in your iPad set for when your classes start/end.
- Get a planner. We know we were all given a planner at the beginning of the school year. And these really help. You can write down what assignments you have for the day and you can make sure you finish them. You could also put any tests that you have coming up so that you don’t forget or don’t study. Planners can be very helpful.
- Make sure your iPad is charged and ready for the day. It helps so it doesn’t die while you are in a zoom meeting or working.
