What is the Desert Lynx?
The Desert Lynx is a part of the feline family. It is a carnivore and a secondary consumer in the food chain. It lives in the tropical savannah of Africa . And the scientific name for it is the caracal.
Desert Lynx on the food chain
The Desert Lynx is a carnivore and is a secondary consumer on the food chain. Its diet includes Mice,Gazelle, and Hares. But that dose not mean its on the top if the food chain it still has the Lion to worry about. And the Lion is the king of all animals
How the Desert Lynx plays a roll in the ecosystem
The Desert lynx is a very solitary animal and only will interact with other Desert Lynx when it needs to reproduce. In an average litter the mother will have about 2-4 kittens. Fathers leave after 10 weeks to find another mate and the mother will stay up to a year. After that the kittens stay with each other for 1 year after being left then go different ways. The only other thing the Desert Lynx does to the ecosystem is eat prey.
Abiotic and Biotic factors
The Desert Lynx uses dead or alive bushes to make a home they use these to hide them from their fierce cousin the Lion. The Desert Lynx usually drinks water at watering holes. But sprint there and drink quick then sprint away. This is because they have a disadvantage to the ecosystem. They can be stepped on by elephants or eaten by lions. The soil in the savannah is very dry so it is hard to find shelter with minimal vegetation. The high temperature can get up to 95F (32C) and low 68F (20C).
