A NOTE FROM THE PRINCIPAL
Dear Parents,
As we come to the close of another school year, I would like to take this opportunity to thank each student, parent and staff member for making this school year so successful. I am thankful for each one of you and would like to wish you a very relaxing and safe summer. To our families who will not be returning to David Elementary, we wish you the best and hope you will come back to visit.
A letter regarding our “Meet the Teacher” will be sent via email around the second week of August. Again, have a wonderful summer and we look forward to seeing you at “Meet the Teacher” on Monday, August 12th.
Sincerely,
Lee Allen
THANK YOU!
The faculty and staff of David Elementary would like to extend a big thank you to all of our parents and volunteers who have helped us so much this year. The volunteer hours, the luncheons, the special treats, and the tremendous support you have given us throughout the year are appreciated more than words can express! We could not do it without you! If you are missing any dishes, please stop by the front office. We have several “lost” dishes in our teacher’s lounge.
END OF THE YEAR EVENTS -- 4TH GRADE FINALE AND WALK OF HONOR
This year, in lieu of award ceremonies, on Thursday, May 30th, at 9:00 am, we will be having a special "Fourth Grade Finale" and “Walk of Honor” as we celebrate with our fourth grade students who will be leaving David Elementary. Fourth grade students will be recognized and given a certificate during the Finale celebration in the gym. Parents are invited to attend this event and are welcome to bring instruments, party blowers, etc...anything that will make noise for the Walk of Honor, which will take place immediately following the "Fourth Grade Finale" celebration! We ask that you refrain from bringing Silly String, confetti, or anything that is difficult for our custodians to clean up.
Students in 2nd and 3rd grade will receive awards in their classroom to bring home. All students will participate in field day activities as listed below:
KINDERGARTEN AND 1ST GRADE -- Wednesday, May 29th -- 9:00 - 10:30 am
2ND AND 3RD GRADE -- Tuesday, May 28th -- 9:00 - 10:45 am
4TH GRADE -- Friday, May 24th -- 9:00 - 11:00 am
EARLY RELEASE DAY - THURSDAY, MAY 30TH
Thursday, May 30th, will be an early release day for all CISD students. The school day will begin at 8:05 a.m. and end at 12:10 p.m. Normal bus routes will run beginning at 12:10 p.m.
If possible, students are encouraged to bring a sack lunch that day due to time constraints. However, a full menu will be available for purchase. Lunch times will be as follows:
K: 10:55, 1st: 11:00
2nd: 11:05, 3rd: 11:10
4th 11:15
We request that parents not join their child for lunch on this day because all students will be eating in their classrooms.
YEARBOOK DISTRIBUTION
All pre-orders for the 18-19 David Yearbook will be distributed today, Wednesday, May 22nd. We will have a few extra yearbooks available for purchase on a first come, first served basis beginning Friday, May 24th, at 7:45 am. If you are interested in purchasing one of the extra books, please send a check in to the front office for $50 made payable to David PTO on Friday, May 24th. Please note that we cannot accept any orders before May 24th.
CLINIC NEWS
End of Year Medication
If your child has medication stored in the clinic, you will receive a letter next week. All medicines must be picked up by an adult no later than Thursday, May 30th, at 12 noon (medication cannot be sent home with a student). We are unable to store medication over the summer—items remaining after May 31st will be discarded. Emergency medications (inhalers, epinephrine, antihistamines) should remain at school until our last day.
Clothing
If your child has borrowed clothing from the clinic, please return these items so they may be used by other students. Most items are labeled “Please return to David Clinic.”
It has been a pleasure to care for and get to know your children this year. Wishing you all a safe and happy summer. See you in August!
