Weekly Update
Ashburn FUTURA
Fourth Quarter Information
I am about to go through a change of my own. I will be retiring from teaching at the end of this current 2020-2021 school year. I am extremely excited because my husband and I will be relocating to our family farm down in southwestern VA. We are planning lots of renovating and building on the farm over the next year or so. However, I am extremely sad that I will be leaving the wonderful Ashburn Elementary School family and the gifted education community in LCPS. I have taught in nine different schools in this district and I can honestly say I feel more at home here at Ashburn than anywhere! Many students and colleagues have asked why I am retiring before I am "old enough", which I take as a pseudo-compliment. The reason is simple...it has been our lifelong dream to return to the farm where I was raised. We are blessed that my husband's retirement from the US Army back in 2008 makes it possible for us to move now and he will continue to do contract work remotely. We plan to build ourselves a sweet little hobby farm and raise our fair share of large breed dogs, goats, chickens, and eventually Heritage cattle and pigs. Gardening was a big part of my childhood, as was helping tend a large orchard. We also plan to rebuild and replicate the gardens and orchards I remember from years ago. We have lots planned and I definitely invite you and your sweet kids to drop by for a visit if you are ever in that area. Reach out and let me know so I can give you our address!
Thank you all for your kindness and acceptance. I came to Ashburn 5 years ago and blazed in with all kinds of crazy ideas and possibilities- thankfully Mrs. Walthour is a dreamer, too! You were all right there with me ready to try new and different things to challenge your kids and expand their learning. Thank you all so very much- I consider you family!
INNOVATION FOCUS
Each student will be ending this FUTURA year by completing a final innovation project. They will be given a scenario and required to use their innovative thinking to come up with a convincing solution. Their communication, creative and critical thinking and ability to make connections will be showcased.
Stay Tuned...the students will be given specific instructions over the next two weeks.
