Toney Elementary Tiger Tracks
"Can't Hide That Tiger Pride"
Principal's Message
Wow! I can’t believe how time is flying! We are already in the second month of the final semester of school. As always, the month of January was a busy time here at Toney. We held our fourth and fifth grade combined Spelling Bee during the third week of January. I would like to congratulate our 2016-2017 Spelling Bee Champion, Christopher Scott from Mrs. Long’s fourth grade class. Christopher will represent Toney at the Countywide Spelling Bee where he will compete against students from all of the county’s elementary and middle schools. I would also like to congratulate our 2nd place winner, Jordon Ammons for an awesome competition. Last but not least, I would like to thank Mrs. Cullison for organizing our Spelling Bee Competition.
January was a special time of year at Toney because we celebrated the best and brightest of our Toney Tigers with Honors Week Assemblies. Honors Week gave us the opportunity to commemorate the achievements of our Toney Tigers. We closed out the month with Career Day. Toney hosted professionals from our community and throughout the city of Atlanta. Ms. Andrews ended this event with a mannequin wax museum of careers that were represented by many of our students. It was phenomenal! I would like to thank the Honors Day and Career Day Committees for organizing two successful events.
February is full of activities! First, Toney will host it's annual African-American Male Read-In on Friday, February 10th. This is an event where men from our community read to the students and share with them their love of literacy. Second, It's Black History Month! The students will present a Black History Program on Thursday, February 23rd and every Friday in February the students, teachers and staff at Toney will celebrate the African-American culture (see the schedule below).
Parents please be reminded of our Title 1 and Georgia Milestones Parent Meeting on Thursday, February 2nd at 5:30pm. Great information will be provided about reading and interpreting test results.
Parents, school will be CLOSED, Friday, February 17th and Monday, February 20th Students will return to school, Tuesday, February 21th.
Remember that while February is African-American History month, we must also be about the business of the future. I would like to thank you for your support as we continue to create a culture of high expectations and forge our collaborative bridge between home, school, and community that supports the academic and social development of each student in becoming a competitive participant in a global society.
Have a Fantastic February!
