News from Mrs. Hilcher- Principal of Grapevine Elementary

Week of September 11 - September 15

Last week was quite a busy week at GES. Somehow the short weeks always feel longer as we try to pack five days of learning fun into four! Classroom teachers are starting to schedule parent-teacher conferences. Our goal is to have these meetings scheduled prior to the end of September. Be watching your child's grade level newsletter for details on scheduling a time. We look forward to partnering with you and making this a wonderful year for your GES Star to learn and grow!

I know many of you have been following the news of the hurricane in Florida this weekend. We are sending our positive thoughts for all of our GES families that have family and friends impacted by these storms in Florida and Texas. As a school community, we did a wonderful job of supporting those impacted by Hurricane Harvey through our three donation drives. In the coming months we will continue to look for ways to support schools impacted by these storms. Thank you for your generosity!

Friday, September 15 is International Dot Day! For those of you who aren't familiar with this, it's a global celebration of creativity, courage and collaboration based on the book The Dot by Peter Reynolds. The message of "Making a Positive Mark on the World" will be shared in a variety of activities planned by teachers. GES students are encouraged to participate in Dot Day by wearing their dots!

Have a wonderful week!

Counselor's Corner

The month of September's guidance topic is KINDNESS! Please spend time this month with your GES star(s) discussing what kindness looks like and sounds like in different environments. For example, kindness can look like picking up something a peer dropped at school; kindness can sound like saying "excuse me" when needing by someone in a grocery store. We will kickoff Rachel's Challenge on Boots & Blue Shirt Day, Monday, October 2nd, so what a great way to lead up to a day devoted to bullying prevention!

Snack Donations

For some of our families, providing a nutritious snack each day to assist their GES star’s performance throughout the day does not happen consistently because of food insecurities. If you are able, please donate individually packaged Goldfish or pretzels in order to help us provide that snack for students that arrive at school without it because of the insecurities. This would not pertain to students that simply forgot a snack that day. If your Star forgets his/her snack often, sending multiple days worth of snacks might help. For questions, please feel free to contact Angela Horn at or 817-251-5740. Thank you for your continued generosity and thoughtfulness.

Carnival Auction Committee

The Auction Committee is looking for 1-2 people to be Grade Level Committee Members to coordinate Auction Baskets for the entire grade. Each grade level will be assigned several baskets instead of assigning them per class. The Grade Level Committee Members will work with the teachers and room parents to communicate with each class in your grade what the baskets are, when & how donations will be collected, and assist with basket wrapping. You may recruit as much or as little help for your grade as you would like. Our goal is to ease the work load of the room parent by creating a separate committee; please know if you would like to serve as both room parent and on the auction committee we are happy to have you! For questions, please contact:
