STUDENT ENGAGEMENT SURVEY
NATIONAL READ ACROSS AMERICA
Dear Robinwood Families,
Tomorrow, March 2, is National Read Across America Day. To celebrate this day the Student Leadership Team has put together a week of read alouds, a school based reading goal to encourage all of our students to develop an active reading life, and a school wide spirit week.
Read Alouds- During this week, teachers will be sharing each day a read aloud from a special guest reader. We will be featuring books that either represent the readers favorite picture books or books that include and promote diverse characters and/or authors. We hope the kids love them.
School Reading Goal-
Students will receive a reading log for the week and track their reading this week. They should bring their logs back to school on Friday, March 5th.
Those who return their logs will be entered into a drawing for a Barnes and Noble gift card. During the Friday afternoon announcements we will draw 9 student winners.
Our school wide goal is to read 13,000 minutes!
Tuesday, March 2-”Drop Everything and Read”
In honor of Read Across America, at 9:15-9:30 am all of RW will “Drop Everything and Read” for 15 minutes.
Thank you for being a part of Literacy week and happy reading!
SPIRIT WEEK ACTIVITES
KINDNESS WEEK
During the week of February 15 - 19, Robinwood students participated in a schoolwide Kindness Week. Over the course of the week students worked on adding to our "Throw Confetti Like Kindness" bulletin board, completed random acts of kindness, listened to Student Leadership team members read stories which highlighted kindness, and wrote Thank You letters to staff members who help them on a daily basis. We had a fantastic week seeing all the kind gestures from the students and staff! Our Robinwood community is so grateful for one another.
In addition to those activities, our Student Leadership Team also held a Kindness Drive. The donations will benefit The Salvation Army Emergency Lodge, which houses homeless individuals and families in Milwaukee and helps them find permanent, safe housing. The outpouring of generosity from our school community was truly inspiring. After counting all donations, our Student Leadership team collected 75 tubes of toothpaste, 210 toothbrushes, 222 packs of crayons and colored pencils, 293 coloring and activity books, 145 hairbrushes and combs, 80 bottles of shampoo and conditioner, and 104 bottles of body wash and lotion.
Our Student Leadership team members cannot thank you enough and hope every student enjoyed the week!
Please watch this video created by our Student Leadership Team members. They did an excellent job recapping the events that took place during Kindness Week.

DRESS FOR THE WEATHER
Wisconsin weather is upon us! Please make sure your son/daughter is dressed appropriately for outdoor recess. Coats and hats are necessary for the impending cold weather. However, this being Wisconsin, it can become warm and sunny by noontime. Please remind your child if they choose to remove their jacket during recess they are to be tied around their waist and not left on the playground. The decision to have an outdoor or indoor recess is based on both the wind speed and temperature at 11:30 am. If it is an outside recess day, all students must go outdoors.
Clothing
All students are expected to go outside for recess whenever the wind chill is above 0 degrees. Please be sure your child is dressed for the weather. This includes a warm coat, mittens or gloves, hats, scarves, snow pants & boots when there is snow. Please write the students name on all items.
New this Year:
As you are aware, our recess looks different keeping classroom cohorts together in assigned areas throughout the playground. This includes three grassy areas that will become snow when the winter weather starts. This means ALL students will be expected to have boots and snow pants during the weeks they are assigned to the snowy areas.
