Thought for the Week
Encouraging and engaging discussion, debate and discourse
Slavery Abolition Act 1833
In 1833 our country declared the 'ownership' and use of human beings as slaves to be illegal. Today every single country in the world views slavery to be an illegal act. How then is it possible that on 25th October 2013 three women were rescued from a lifetime of slavery in our capital city?
Slavery in London
30 years of servitude
These three women are believed to have been kept under controlled conditions for the past 30 years. We ask our students and staff this week how is it possible in 21st century Britain that this could happen? How is it possible that anybody in our country would think this is OK? How can we prevent this from happening again? How can we find and help those who it is currently happening to?
