Ci3T: More on Opportunities to Respond
General Guidelines:
- Best done with material or concepts students have a basic understanding of, since the goal is to help students respond to teachers inquiries rapidly and accurately, which promotes their engagement as they practice the information or skill.
- Three or more opportunities to respond per minute is the goal.

Strategies, Strategies, Strategies
"How can Isis be stopped?" was the topic for the very important argument unit, but when one of my students opened the assignment and said, "Ugh, this is what we are doing today?" I knew I had to spice it up. So, Tic-Tac-Toe Fact Find was born."
Has this ever happened to me? NOOOO of course not! Haha. This activity has students engaged and learning in a fun and exciting way and is not your typical Tic-Tac-Toe Choice Menu.
Mindset
Dynamic:
- continuos
- in the moments
- implies change
Static:
- discrete
- one moment in time
- to describe the state, to label gaps and needs for instruction at another time
Assessment should guide teaching. It should be continuous and provide information about the "zone of proximal development" (Vygotsky 1978).
It needs to capture where the child is at on the landscape of learning -- where she has been, where her struggles are and where she is going: it must be dynamic.
