BLOOMINGDALE NEWS
APRIL 2019
A Note from the Principal
Greetings Bloomingdale Families,
According to the calendar, spring has finally arrived! Those of us who live in the north country are well aware that the calendar does not dictate when spring arrives in the Adirondacks. While the weather forecast does have some warmer temperatures and the maple sap is starting to flow, we still have some cold days ahead. Please continue to send your child to school with appropriate clothing- warm hats and gloves, winter boots, jackets and snow pants. We want students to get outside and play every chance we can, but we don’t want to do that at the risk of students getting soaking wet, cold, and ultimately, sick.
A special “Thank You!” to the Bloomingdale Parents Club for bringing our students two fabulous events this past month. Students truly enjoyed listening to Patrick Darrah as he performed and reminisced about his time as a student here in Bloomingdale. Also, “Peter Rabbit” Movie Night was a great way to finish up Pajama Day and begin a hard earned weekend. The Parents Club will have another meeting on Tuesday, April 23rd at 6:30 pm in the Bloomingdale Library. All are welcome to join us.
Grades 3, 4, and 5 will be taking the State ELA exams beginning on April 2nd. The exams are untimed and take place on a computer over the course of two days. Historically, most students finish the exam session in less than 1 hour. Students should not stress over the test and they do not need to study. In fact, there is little to study for. Make sure your child is well rested and has a good breakfast prior to the examination period. All we ask is that they try their very best.
Spring Break is from April 6- April 21st. We will return to school on Earth Day, April 22nd. Arbor Day is Friday April 26th. This will be a good time to celebrate our Earth and the beautiful forested environment we are lucky enough to call home. I hope everyone is able to enjoy time together as a family during our break. Your children have worked extremely hard this year and deserve this break. When we return to school on April 22nd, we have only 2 short months until summer vacation begins. These are extremely busy months here at school, so please check the school calendar regularly for highlights, changes and updates.
Happy Spring Everyone!
