Speaking and Listening
Talk is essential in developing literacy. Talk can be used in a variety of different contexts to develop and assess a range of skills across a variety of subjects. In order for this to be effective, it is important to teach the skills of speaking and listening including the language needed for effective discussion. Classroom talk is a genre in itself, and students need to be taught how to talk in this situation and how it differs from social talk.
