Athletic Improvements Underway at GWA
New Athletic Practice Space Addition
A new 50’ x 100’ building is currently under construction in the Athletic Complex. Thanks to the support and leadership of GWA parent William Coleman the building will be a huge benefit to our athletes and our students. When it is complete, it will feature batting cages for baseball and softball. It will provide space for wrestling as well as practice space for football, band and other groups that need to escape inclement weather.
Tennis Courts Resurfaced
Our tennis program is growing! GWA is adding a middle school tennis team. In preparation for tennis season and the additional space needed to accommodate players, all courts have been resurfaced.
New Weather Monitoring Device On Campus
Keeping the safety of our athletes in the forefront, GWA has installed a weather monitoring device that will allow better monitoring for lightning as well as wet bulb temperatures. This device is mounted on the top of the scoreboard at the baseball field and gives our athletic staff more accurate monitoring of weather conditions on our campus. The wet bulb device measures environmental conditions during exercise. It helps staff to determine if conditions are too hot for athletes to be on the fields. This latest campus improvement provides an additional layer of safety for our families and our visitors.
Basketball Adds Fifth Grade Teams
Soccer Adds Boys JV Team
This year enough interested players have signed up to play soccer, and GWA will be adding a Boys JV team.
GWA Fields Are In Tip Top Shape
Thanks to the generosity of parents, Dan and Darla Pennington, our athletic fields are in top notch condition for sports! The Penningtons have graciously supported the GWA athletic program over the years with the contribution of fertilizer and seed for the maintenance of our fields. They also donate Turface product for our softball and baseball fields.
Booster Club Reorganized
The GWA Booster Club has been reorganized and will take on responsibility for promoting athletic programs, increasing community interest, recognizing the endeavors and achievements of teams, and assisting the Athletic department. Booster club fundraising efforts will support all athletic teams at GWA. A strong booster club is reliant on both volunteers and financial support to foster the development of our student athletes and to maintain high quality athletic programs.
Membership in the Booster Club is open to everyone. Parents, grandparents, alumni, and community friends are encouraged to join. The membership fee of $100.00 will be divided. 50% will go to foster athletic programs as a whole, and 50% will be credited directly to the sport of your choice for the purchase of equipment.
Please contact Shelly Rockmore at email@example.com if you would like to join.
