LEARNING/TEACHING CORNER....FROM TERRI MILLER'S DESK
Fall Family Literacy Night is next week, October 29th immediately following our second grade concert. Attached is the folder for all the documents that will be used for that evening including each presentation.
Make sure the flyer goes home on Friday in folders.
Please encourage them to visit the library for pictures that will be presented on the tv in the front entryway. They will not be printed out for families to take home.
Monday I will bring down a tub with candy to pass out to all children, your slides presentation printed out for each family, papers to be handed out, your book to read for the presentation, and the free gift for each student.
Make sure that families sign in on the sign-in sheet.
The survey will need to be filled out and turned in by the end of the evening. It will be on the back of their direction sheet. This sheet and a treat bag will be given to them as they leave the gym after the concert. It will explain the evening and where to go for each presentation. The bag is for children to carry their treats in for the evening.
Remind them to visit the cafeteria at the end of the evening to get a cookie and juice/lemonade. That is where they can turn in their surveys.
Students and teachers are encouraged to dress in costume.
If you have questions about our Fall Family Literacy Night, please come see me.
iReady Reports that are sent home with parents on Parent/Teacher Conference evenings need to be the “For Families” report. Watch the video that is linked for directions on how to print these reports.
Several teachers are filling out a Text Level Progress sheet for each of their students to give to parents during Parent/Teacher Conferences. If you would like the Text Level Progress sheet, please click on this link. You could attach it to a reading log to encourage parents to promote reading with their child at home.
Watch the video for 6 Tips for Productive & Positive Parent/Teacher Conferences by The Happy Teacher. She discusses the following tips for a successful conference.
Sandwich method
Self Evaluations
Notebook for Questions
Goodies to take home
Notecard with a list of general topics
Activities for kids and siblings

Pineapple Calendar~Quarter one is over! Everyone will need to observe another colleague again sometime in quarter two for at least 15 minutes. This can be during your plan time, recess, or lunch time. One teacher used their counseling time to observe another colleague in their grade-level. When you visit a classroom, please fill out a note card in my room with a positive comment on the learning that you observed. Put the note card in the basket on top of my bookshelf so that I can mark your name off. Make sure that you put your name in the top left corner of the envelope so that I know who the card is from. Thank you!!
Come see me if you have any questions or concerns. Let me know how I can further support you and your students in your classroom.
