Distance Learning: First Grade
Week 3: March 30 - April 4
Update
Hello first grade families! As you are aware, our school closure has been extended and we are currently scheduled to return to Franklin on April 20th. Please remember that our Spring Break will remain intact. There will be no assignments provided to students from April 9-April 19.
This newsletter contains updated links, files and instructions to obtain resources as we dive deeper into distance learning. If you do not have access to a printer, your child may use a notebook to record their work.
**Reminder: this newsletter may be translated into another language by clicking the translate button on the bottom and selecting the language of your choice**
We hope you are all safe and healthy!
Love, The First Grade Teachers
You may print the daily packets below for your child to work on at home. Please allow your child motor breaks, as this work is not expected to be completed all in one sitting.
TECHNOLOGY
Must Read: Tips and Tools for Families
Classlink: This is a website that can be accessed with a computer. Once your child logs in with their username and password, they will have access to all of the programs we are suggesting here without having to enter a password again. Classlink does not work the same way on a tablet. You may need to download each app individually on a tablet. If that is the case, the passwords to various apps and resources are listed at the bottom of this newsletter. Please watch Mrs. Behan's tutorial below to learn more about logging in to Classlink.
Reading A-Z: Also formerly known as Raz Kids, this is an online reading platform. The books are leveled similarly to the books in our classroom. After your child listens to and reads a book, they will activate the option to take a comprehension quiz. The teacher can monitor student progress. This can be accessed on a computer through Classlink. If you are using a tablet, you should download the free app to use- search for Kids A-Z in any app store.
IXL: An online program that supports our classroom curriculum by providing personalized learning to each individual. The children have had accounts for IXL Math since Kindergarten, but the accounts have recently been upgraded to included ELA content as well. IXL can be accessed through Classlink on a computer. It is a downloadable app if you are using a tablet.
Seesaw: Families have been connected to their student's journal through the Seesaw for Families app/website. Now, students will be able to connect with their class and complete assignments on their own. You must download the Seesaw Class app if you are using a tablet (this is a different app than the families app). Your child's username is their hwps email address and password (same information as Classlink account). If your child is using a computer, they may access the Seesaw class through Classlink. Please watch the video below to learn how to access student activities in Seesaw.
*Please reach out to your child's teacher if you have any questions regarding student usernames and passwords*
