Kindergarten Newsletter ACES
Week Of January 30th
Highlights from last week....
In Phonics, we focused on spelling words by tapping them out.
We also practiced writing our first and last name on our work. Please reinforce this at home as well.
In Reader's Workshop, we focused on looking at the picture, the first letter and then looking through the word and sound out the letters that we know. This is where the majority of the class is with regards to their reading. Have them show you some of their strategies at home. They are really doing great!
In Writer's Workshop, we focused on our opinion writing. This week we focused on going back and editing our work without being told. This is a tricky concept, so we might be practicing this for at least another week.
In Math, we finished our module on comparing numbers.
In Science, we learned construction equipment and building.
A peek at our learning this week....
We will continue to practice writing our first and last name on our work. Please reinforce this at home as well.

This week in Writer's Workshop, we will be focusing on editing our work and writing sentences using our "tapping" skills to write words in the sentences. The children are doing a great job with their writing.
In Math, we will be starting our next module. We will be working on breaking numbers apart and putting them together using number bonds.
VALENTINE'S DAY PARTY- Tuesday, February 14th
We will also be having our Valentine's Day party on Tuesday, February 14th. This week there will be a notice about a family homework project. It goes with a Valentine Poem. We would like you to create a Valentine box with your child. Your child will be using the box to gather the Valentine cards that will be exchanged. Please send in the completed box to school on or before February 10th. Have fun and be creative. If funds are tight and you cannot afford to purchase valentines, we discussed that homemade valentines are just as great as store bought. Let us know and we can send home some construction paper for you. If you would like to send in a yummy treat for the party, please let us know by sending in a note in your child's folder. Thank you in advance for you help!

Notes from Mrs. Melanson
I can't believe we are moving into February this week! We will be doing some books and activities related to Groundhog's Day. Let's hope for an early Spring!!
There has been a lot of illness going through the school, and we have had many friends out sick. I am hoping that this will pass quickly and they will all be feeling better. In the meantime, we are disinfecting as much as possible and encouraging students to wash hands frequently. Thanks to all that donated clorox wipes and paper towels!!
I would also like to say thank you to the parents that are offering to volunteer in the classroom. Your help is greatly appreciated!! If anyone else is interested in volunteering the our class, feel free to contact me and we can get you all set up!
As always, call or write with any questions or concerns!
Notes from Mrs. Goldthwaite
I did get the scholastic books in, sorry I forgot to send them home. They will be coming home on Monday. Our next book order is due Friday, February 10th.
We have another High school senior joining us for her internship. Miss Ashley was a former student of Mrs.G. 11 years ago...
We will have some guest walking through our classrooms this week. They are going to see how we are engaged in our learning. We are doing a great job with all our targets and feeling pretty good that we are learning so many things.
We have been in school for 90 school days. We are half way done with kindergarten. In 10 school days it will be the 100th day of school. We will be doing activities that have to do with the number 100. It should be a fun day.
We are collecting ACERS tickets. Every Friday we can cash them in for a prize or we can save for another time to get a bigger prize. Some of us are donating a ticket to help beable to duck tape Mrs. Diaz up to the wall. That will be fun to see and do!
Thank you for all your support. Mrs. G
