Mrs. JoAnn Wood Named LTISD Mentor of the Year!

Earlier this spring, Mrs. JoAnn Wood was named by West Cypress Hills Elementary School staff as the Mentor of the Year for our campus. We are all thrilled that she has also just been named Mentor of the Year by the Lake Travis Independent School District.

Mrs. Wood makes a difference in the lives of our Tiger students. She volunteers her time every year to read with them, play games with them, and help them learn to communicate well with others.

Congratulations, Mrs. Wood! We appreciate you and all that you do for us.

We are grateful for your help!

Thank you, Volunteers, for making a difference in our learners' lives. Thank you for volunteering for lunch duty, reading with students, helping in the library, decorating the halls and classrooms, resetting and servicing our clocks, mentoring students, coaching them in math, sponsoring Kardivas, joining our PTO, helping with photo days, watching out for us as WatchDOGS, and helping with fun runs and field days.

We appreciate you and all that you do to make WCHE a great place to be.

Spring Traffic Patterns and Student Safety Concerns

Spring is here, and with that comes beautiful weather. As we see more sunny skies and pretty days, we also see an increased number of students dismissed as walkers instead of them being designated as car or bus riders at dismissal.

We have noticed an increased number of cars parked on both sides of Sabino Drive, causing concerns about the safety of our students. Please help us with the following dismissal procedures:

  • if you are picking up students via car, please use the car rider line in lieu of parking on Sabino to meet your students.
  • if your students are solo or escorted walkers, they should only cross Sabino Drive at the crosswalk or cross Sabino with a parent escort. Students should not cross Sabino alone due to the heavy traffic on that road at dismissal time.

Thank you for your help in keeping our Tigers safe as we move into our last month of the 2018-2019 school year.

2019-2020 School Supply Lists and Kits

There are three ways you can purchase next year's school supplies.

  1. Thanks to our fabulous PTO, supplies can be ordered online from schoolkidz at your convenience! The online prepackaged grade level supplies can be ordered until June 7, 2019.. If you purchase your student's school supplies online, the supplies will be delivered to the school before the first day of school. Grade appropriate kits are available now. Click here and use account #79519 to view the kits.
  2. LTLov provides a limited amount of free district-approved, prepackaged school supplies funded from charitable grants. If you would like to apply for a set of free, prepackaged supplies, fill out this form and forward it to LTLOV so that it is received by LTLOV by June 3.
  3. Below we have lists of the school supplies so that, if you prefer, you can purchase the supplies on your own from any source convenient to you. Feel free to drop off the school supplies that you've purchased at our Meet the Teacher event August 13.

*3rd, 4th, and 5th Grade Students also need to have student planners for the 2019-20 school year. These are sold separately from the prepackaged kits. The student planners can be ordered through May 24. Please use this form to order your planner(s.) Planners cost $6 each, payable in cash or check to WCHE. Planners ordered by May 24 will be delivered to students' classrooms at our Meet the Teacher Event August 13. Planners can also be purchased at the school during the Meet the Teacher Event or from the front desk any time on or after the first day of school.

The Wall of Fame for Shoe Tying for Kindergarten, 1st, and 2nd Graders

If your Kinder, 1st Grader, and/or Second Grader can tie his/her shoes, please notify Coaches Mirizzi & Mayes because they want to honor this accomplishment in the school gym on our WALL OF FAME FOR SHOE TYING!

Once notified of the student's successful shoe-tying accomplishment, we will provide your student with a paper shoe to color, take the student's photo, and then post the photo and customized paper shoe on our WALL OF FAME FOR SHOE TYING!

It's going to be really exciting to see our young Tigers on the WALL OF FAME!

Staff Appreciation Week is May 6 - May 10!

The PTO has lots of great things planned for the WCHE staff to show appreciation for all that they do to help our children be happy, successful students. One event the PTO would love to do is to have a giveaway prize drawing each day that week so that a different, lucky staff member will receive a nice gift.

If you have a business or home business and would be willing to donate one of our prizes, your donation would be greatly appreciated. And, even if you don't have a business and would like to donate, the PTO will gladly accept gift cards.

Please turn in your staff appreciation donations to the front desk of the school by Friday, May 3.

If you have questions, feel free to contact Barby Schmidt. Thank you!

LOST & FOUND NEEDS MORE FINDERS!

The WCHE Lost & Found is overflowing with lovely coats, sweaters, lunch boxes, and water bottles. We hate to donate so many lovely and expensive things. Please stop by and go through our Lost & Found to make certain that you have retrieved your belongings.

And, avoid permanently losing lovely and valuable belongings by putting name tags on them. The PTO and our Monitors routinely go through Lost & Found items in an attempt to return those with names on them to the rightful owners.
