Introduction

The Philippines is an amazing place to live. It has transparent beautiful blue oceans and never a dark cloud in the blue sky. We have lots of freedom and rights which makes it wonderful to live here. Throughout the whole Philippines there is about 103,775,000 people living here. Some people live in the rural area.Most live in the capital Manila which has beautiful buildings and a wide assortment of jobs, ranging from a banker to an architect. Most of us Filipinos are ranges of Christianity,Roman Catholic, and other not as big factors like Hindu, Buddhist, Sikh, Jewish, Baha’i , and etc. On holidays men and woman wear colorful and embroidered clothes that are made of silk and woman do special dances to show history through dancing. The colors are vibrant, everything is fun, qnd you may even find yourself dancing a little too. We Filipinos are the main factors of the islands amazing atmosphere, we make life a little more fun in many ways.

Climate & Landscape

The Philippines is located in the Southwest Pacific Ocean. It consist of more than 7,000 islands, only 1,000 have people living in there. It has 11 main islands that make up 95% of the country’s area. We have a major port called Manila and their biggest city is Quezon City.

We have a wonderful assortment of over 9,000 plants such as Bamboo, Banyan, Palm Trees, and etc.We also have many animals such as monkeys, tropical birds, Tarsiers, and many other animals.

Food

The food we eat is a mixture of American, Chinese, Malay, and Spanish dishes. We have rice at every meal with meat consisting of beef, fish, and poultry. It all depends on what you can afford.

We have a rich assortment of herbs and spices on our island that bring our Filipino dishes to life. Some of the most common spices are garlic, onion, pepper, ginger, and bay leaves.

We have many different fruits like Batwan that has much sourness that makes your mouth just tingle, Atis is like a sugar apple or custard apple and makes you wanting more, Sineguelas are a delicious fruit that are sweet and juicy and also have lots of vitamin C.


Government

Our government is a republic, we have elected legislature and president. We have 5 formal constitutions since we declared ourself an independent republic on June 12, 1898.

90% of the Filipino adults can read and write. Our law requires us to go to school from age 7-12, 6th grade is the maximum.

We are a republic that has a presidential form of government, with three branches: Executive branch consist of the president and the vice president, they are elected by the popular vote and serve a term of 6 years. We have the legislative branch which main responsibility is laws, and they consist of the Upper House and the Lower House. And finally there is the Judiciary branch that consist of their systems of court, working with the Supreme Court and lead by the Chief Justice. Currently there will be a re-election in May and July of this year to see who gets what.



Clothes

Most Filipino’s wear clothes that are relate to the western wear, but on special holidays they wear nicer clothes. The guys wear a barong tagalog, it’s a beautiful embroidered shirt made up of raw silk, or cotton,and pineapple fabric. Woman clothes consist of a long, puffed sleeve-dress, called a balintawak.

The traditional garment for men is barong tagalog, an embroidered outer shirt, that is worn untucked. This piece of garment has long sleeves with a mid thigh horizontal hemline, coordinated with slits. This garment is made from pineapple fibers, raw silk, or grass fibers.
Traditional garment for women is a heavily starched, butterfly sleeved Terno and to match a long skirt on special occasions.

Work

You can live in the rural area where you farm rice and plant crops, the life there is exotic and filled with beautiful plants and animals, and wonderful scenery. At sunset and sunrise that's when you want to live in the country area, its a beautiful sight and much worth it. There is also the option of living in the urban area. The city is filled with buildings and people. The jobs range from a banker to an architect and so many other jobs. In the city you earn pretty good income depending on your job.The city lights up at night. Everything is brighter and more beautiful.

Religion

We Filipinos are proud to say we are the only christian nation in Asia . More than 86% of the population are roman catholic,6% belonging to various nationalized christian cults, and 2% belonging to more than 100 denominations. . We have many members of the Philippine Independent Church and Philippine church of Christ. The chinese minority, has culturally influence with mixing Filipino Catholicism with the beliefs and practices of Buddhism, Daoism, and Confucianism.

Language

The language has two main languages Filipino and English,the national language is Filipino.

There are about 70 native languages spoken here,all are related to the Malay language,are spoken here.



Filipino is based on the language Tagalog, its the official language for us Filipinos, 55% of us speak Tagalog. But english is used for many different purposes like education, government, TV (ex: Commercial) because it is understood to most of us. The Philippines is the third largest group of english speaking countries in the world. First is the United States, second is the United Kingdom, and third is the Philippines. We use a mixture of Filipino and english words and phrases, known as “Taglish”.
