2020-2021 School Reopening Update
Travel Advisory/Mandatory Quarantine
New York State has issued a travel advisory for anyone returning from travel to states that have a significant degree of community-wide spread of COVID-19. The list of states is continuously being updated, with some states being added on, and others taken off, based on changing rolling averages of infection rates. With the exception of certain travel that is less than 24 hours, travelers returning to or entering New York State from states on the list are required to quarantine for 14 days.
For a list of states and territories, and to read the New York State Travel Advisory Guidance, click here.
Please note that any students who have returned from these states less than 14 days before the start of school, will not be able to start school until their quarantine period is over. Since the first day of school is September 8th, that means the latest students can return to New York from locations on the travel advisory list is August 25th in order to start school on time.
During the school year, our daily screening tool will require parents to note any student travel. Be mindful that if students travel to a restricted state during the school year, they will have to self-quarantine for 14 days as per the New York State Travel Advisory legal requirement.

Nassau County Board of Health Meeting
As a member of the Nassau County Superintendents Executive Committee, I recently attended a second meeting with Nassau County Health Commissioner, Larry Eisenstein and County Executive Laura Curran. As I’ve shared, the Nassau County Department of Health, along with the New York State Department of Health and our school physician play essential roles in our school reopening planning and our continuing school health safety protocols throughout the year. I will share information from the county meeting in the updated FAQ.
Wishing Everyone a Good Weekend!
