BHMS Updates
Principal's Corner
Dear BHMS Bulldogs,
We hope everyone had a restful holiday break. The second semester is always a fast-paced time for our students. In addition to all of the great academic classroom activities, there will be a plethora of extracurricular activities, fine arts concerts, poetry slam, and many more events to conclude the school year. So, we encourage you to read the weekly eblasts so that you are aware of upcoming events. Make sure your child listens to the morning announcements for upcoming opportunities for student participation. And always stay in contact with your child's teachers for upcoming class activities as well.
As we move into the second semester, we want to remind all students/parents that our school day begins at 8:45 and our doors open at 8:35. Please monitor your arrival time so that students are not standing outside too long during the Winter months.
If the second semester is anything like the first semester, then we are in for a treat.
Thanks so much for your support!
Derrick L. Thomas, Principal,
Beacon Hill Middle School
BHMS News!
Term Two Progress Reports!
Students have now completed 18 weeks of the 2022-2023 school year. We are at the midpoint of term two. Now is the time for families to wonder- How is my child doing?
Grades and report cards are available through the Infinite Campus Parent Portal and Student Portal, which you can access in your web browser or via one of the apps. You should be able to log into the parent portal to see grades in each course for both formative and summative assessments. If you need login assistance, see the support steps here. You will not have a PDF report card for progress report-that will be made available at the end of term two.
To Find Grades:
Select "Grades" on the left navigation bar. There's a screenshot and video below to assist.
"Grade Book Updates" will show changes in the gradebook made within the last 14 days
Pro tip: To hide the standards for which there are not yet posted assignments or scores: in the mobile app or in your computer browser, tap/select Settings and select the box next to Hide rows without grades or assignments.
Not sure how to log in? Here is a video to help. You should be able to login and see new grades posted (either formative or summative).
There is also detailed information and tutorials about viewing grades and grading practices on our school website.

CSD News and Announcements
Good Troublemaker Award
The late Congressman John Lewis was known for his famous plea to all humans fighting for social justice. “Speak up, speak out, get in the way. Get in good trouble, necessary trouble, and help redeem the soul of America.” Who in this district, or in your building, has actions that speak louder than their words when it comes to being a good troublemaker for equity? Honor them by telling us more about their actions as champions for equitable educational outcomes in CSD.
Nominate someone else or yourself for the Good Equity Troublemaker Award here by Sunday, January 8, 2023, at 11:59 PM. Contact Anthony Downer at adowner@csdecatur.net with any questions or for more info.
