Westside Middle School

January 21, 2022

Masks and Water Bottles

Please send your student to school with a mask and water bottle. It is extremely important that students are wearing masks appropriately, which is covering their nose and mouth. We will be wearing masks until February 4th.

Outside Food and Drink

All outside food and drink must be consumed outside of the building. We do not allow for students to take them to classes or the lunch room. If they show up with one they will need to finish it in the main office before going to class. Thank you!!

Registration for Westside High School classes

The middle school counselors will then be meeting individually with their assigned students to go over their course requests for high school. This process will go through approximately mid to late February. The high school counselors will come to the middle school on Friday, February 25 to meet with 8th grade students to finalize student course requests.

We encourage you (parents/guardians) to please have your student login to the scheduler and go over their course requests with them. The scheduler is located at https://westsideweb.azurewebsites.net/account/login. You can see student course requests by clicking “Cart” on the top menu bar.

You can access the WHS Course Planning Guide here. National Assessment of Educational Progress

Westside Middle School will participate in the National Assessment of Educational Progress (NAEP) on February 25, 2022. NAEP is the largest nationally representative and continuing assessment of what students know and can do in various subjects. NAEP is different from our state assessments because it is a common measure of achievement across the country. The assessment is administered by the National Center for Education Statistics, within the U.S. Department of Education. The results are released as The Nation’s Report Card, which provides information about student achievement to educators, parents, policymakers, and the public.

Only 100 8th grade students will be selected to participate. If your student was selected by NAEP, a letter will be sent home with them on Friday, January 21st. This letter will give specific information about the test and who to contact if you have questions.

TAGG

Westside Middle School participates in TAGG. TAGG has a growing list of participating businesses who will donate a portion of what you spend there to our school. WMS uses these funds to help support our school PBIS store and extra supplies teachers need throughout the year.

This is a fast and easy way to help our building without fundraising. Watch this video to see how it works. https://youtu.be/WS2u4s1J63c
