September 2018

A Message from Mr. Symank

It’s official! We’re off and running with the 2018 - 2019 school year. We’ve had an amazing start to the year and have really enjoyed getting to know our new Wildcats and seeing how much our returning Wildcats have grown over the summer. It certainly seems like they grow up overnight sometimes.

This year we have right at 700 students on campus. We had a great turnout for our open house and our new format seemed to work well for everyone. We have taken some notes and will continue to adjust each year.

In October, we will have our Annual Fall Fest and at this event we will celebrate Oakwood’s 40th Birthday! Please be on the look out for more information in the weeks to come.

Schoology codes were shared by the district via email yesterday. If you have yet to receive the code for your student, please let me know.

As football games at A&M Consolidated and College Station HS begin, please note that intermediate students will not be permitted into the games without a parent or guardian. Once in the game, intermediate students will sit with either their parent/guardian or in the middle school section. Students found wondering around or beneath the bleachers will be removed.

Thank you all so much for allowing us the opportunity to work with your amazing children. If you have any questions or concerns regarding your child, please contact your child’s teacher, counselor, or the front office.

Have you used Schoology yet?

Teachers and students have already begun to utilize Schoology to share information and be organized this year.

Learn more about Schoology at under "Academics" on the Parent's Info tab at CSISD.org's website

Are you ready for some football?

Oakwood's most valued fundraising comes from TAMU Game Day parking. Please help spread the word that Oakwood offers safe and convenient parking just down George Bush Drive for a $20 donation. 100% of proceeds benefit the student group or department volunteering and the PTO. Please stay tuned from staff or PTO members in need of volunteers. Thanks to all who help out this fall!

Share our Facebook page with event details about each game. The page is called "TAMU Game Day Parking at Oakwood" or follow the link:

Introducing the Oakwood Food Pantry

If you are new to Oakwood, we are happy to share that Oakwood has a food pantry! Our pantry is run by school personnel in partnership with the Brazos Valley Food Bank to provide food to Oakwood Students whose families are facing hunger and food insecurity. Our pantry relies solely on the generosity of others.

Oakwood will provide weekend packs for 25 students. A weekend pack contains enough food for two breakfasts, two lunches and two dinners for one student. All food in the packs are ready to eat.

Food donations are not able to be accepted. Besides donating funds to the pantry, donations of cinch backpack bags and toiletries such as deodorant, feminine hygiene products and shampoo are appreciated. Additional opportunities may be shared this year, but anyone is always welcome to check with the front office on how to make a monetary donation or otherwise to support the pantry.

Keep up with Oakwood PTO with texts and on Facebook

We are hoping to go more paperless in our communications. If it's important, we'll text you if you've signed up for remind with the PTO. See the picture below for how to receive texts through remind.com. We only send texts during polite hours.

We share even more info for parents through Facebook for the school here and for the PTO here. It is encouraged that parents toggle on "Get Notifications" on the top of our pages. Otherwise, many posts will not be included in your news feed without being boosted with an ad buy.
