The Main Things
An MSD Communication that Cuts out the Clutter!
November 7th 2022
Main Thing 1: Conferences
This month you will have the opportunity to meet one-on-one with your student’s teacher(s). Mark your calendars for conferences on November 21st and 22nd. If you haven’t heard from your student’s school, the information will be coming very soon.
You may need to set up a ParentVue account to schedule your conference time. Follow these instructions to do so:
Activate Account:
Select ‘I am a Parent’
Select ‘Activate Account’ (You will need an activation key. You can get this from your student's school)
Read the privacy statement and click ‘I Accept’
Create a Username and Password
Enter a primary email address
Click ‘Complete Account Activision’
You can also download the ParentVUE app in the appstore on your device. If you need more help, follow these instructions or contact your school.
If You Already Have An Account:
Login here: Click Here
If you forgot your password, you must reset in a web browser, not on the app.
Your username will appear in the password reset email.
Parent involvement is a big part of success in the classroom. National Coalition for Parent involvement in Education shares that students with involved parents are more likely to have higher grades and test scores; attend school regularly; have better social skills; show improved behavior; and adapt well to school.
If you have questions about conferences, please contact your school. We hope to see you there!
Main Thing 2: Severe Weather Protocol
Winter weather already?! We are preparing for severe weather and want you to know what communication you can expect from us on snowy days.
We work with the National Weather Service, City and County Public Works to make the very best decisions for our students and staff.
Weather-related school changes can include: Normal school hours/snow bus routes, canceled school, two-hour delayed start and releasing school early.
On mornings with severe weather, our staff is monitoring the situation and driving roads at 4 a.m. We will typically make a decision about school delays or cancellations by 5:15 a.m. Automated phone calls will come out at around 6 a.m.
You can expect a phone call, text message and email in the case of a school cancellation or delay. We will also post on the Medford School District Facebook and Instagram pages as well as the district website.
Make sure your information is up-to-date with your school, so you get these important notifications in the event of severe weather.
If you have more questions, visit the Frequently Asked Questions page of our website.
Main Things Tip!
This is School Psychologists Week! We are thankful for the great work our school psychologists do.
Adrianne Fry has been a school psychologist with the Medford School District for eight years. She shares how modeling can make a difference in your student’s behavior.
“None of us are perfect parents, but you are the perfect parent for your student.” - Adrianne Fry
How to Serve as a Model for your Student
Modeling for your student doesn’t mean you get things perfect, it means you can model how to recover when things aren’t perfect.
Examples of modeling:
If your student is a struggling reader, read with them and let them see you struggle and recover
If your student wants their work to be perfect and melts down when it’s not, model that it’s okay to make mistakes
