A Message from Principal Sarlos
Hello from Palisades! In addition to creating the Palisades World Language school, LOSD has made a commitment to strengthening and growing the Immersion program district-wide! Just to let you know some of the things we are doing at the moment to this end:
1. Two weeks ago Immersion Teachers in 3rd through 12th grade and myself and a Spanish bilingual teacher on special assignment as a coach, and a bilingual VP from Lakeridge Highschool met to work on Curriculum Alignment. We will meet again on March 9th. What a great group of Educators!
2. As the District Immersion Coordinator K-12. I am holding parent information nights at both the Elementary and Middle School levels in March and April. Here it will be as a part of our combined SAC and PTO meetings on March 14th.
3. The Chinese Immersion planning group will be presenting the proposed Mandarin curriculum to the School Board for examination on March 6th.
4. This fall and winter 2 Immersion teachers and our STEM teacher and myself attended all the math curriculum adoption meetings to be certain immersion teachers' perspectives were present and language issues were considered as the new math curriculum for the district was selected.
5. Three Immersion teachers attended the conference for the Oregon Association of Latino Administrators.
6. The LOSD is supporting at least seven Hispanic and Spanish bilingual educators as they continue their academic preparation to strengthen their educational preparation. These kinds of academic supports are available to all educators however, we have taken care that educators who will serve our immersion program are aware that these supports are available in order to further strengthen our program.
7. At the moment the district is holding the Immersion Lottery for 3 kinder and one first-grade class next year as we welcome the Mandarin Program to Palisades!
Warmly, Lilian Sarlos

Drop Off/Pick Up: Safety Reminders
Above is a picture of our student pick up layout.
Please remember that students should not cross the street unattended. If you need to park, please walk your student through the crosswalk. Do not let your student cross the street on their own.
For pick up, we wait to visually see the responsible adult before student leave the line. If you are parked, please come up to the walkers line to pick up your student.
Please help us ensure the safety of all. If you are the driver, please wait until it is clear to go forward. If you are walking to the school please make sure there is no car moving, before you cross the street.
This policy was put in place over ten years ago to address the safety and efficiency of student drop. Please cooperate with us in making our school a safe place for all.
Youth Survey are Open
YouthTruth surveys are now open. We encourage you to participate in the survey as it is an incredibly valuable way to help us improve students’ experiences in our school. Please take the survey before it closes at midnight on March 24 by clicking this link: ytsurvey.org/losdfamily23
Please note:
The survey needs to be completed in one sitting; about 15 minutes to complete.
We ask that one member of each household fill out the survey.
If you have more than one child who attends the same school, you may respond to the survey multiple times - one time per child.
If you write any comments, please do not include your name or anything else that might identify you. Your responses are anonymous, and they will be combined with the responses of other parents and guardians before being shared back with school and district leadership.
If you have any questions about the survey, or our plans for how we will use your feedback, please contact Principal Dan Draper. We sincerely thank you for taking the time to provide your feedback. Your response is incredibly valuable to us.
New Application for School Volunteers
For the safety of children, volunteers are required to have an approved background check when volunteering in schools.
Submitting an online application initiates the background check process. Once submitted, applicants will receive an email upon approval of your background check and you will be given access through the onsite Raptor System at all schools. Please allow up to three weeks to process your approval.
Volunteers need to submit only one application for volunteering in all LOSD schools. Applications need to be submitted annually to capture changes in background checks, policies, and/or vaccination requirements.
Volunteer Application for LOSD
Thank you for applying promptly, and for your service to our students and schools. We are grateful for our volunteers.
Seeking Volunteers for Our Advisory Committees
We need you! Please consider applying for our school or district advisory committee for terms starting next school year. There is one application for all committees -- please mark the committee that is of interest to you. Only committees with vacancies -- School Advisory Committees and Long Range Facility Planning -- are listed in the application for this period. See the charters posted on the School Board Advisory Committees web page for more information about each committee.
Applications are due Monday, March 13 at 5 p.m. Recommendations and selections will be made in April. All applicants will be notified by May 1. Thank you!
March Nurse Notes
Handwashing
While hand sanitizer is a great option, it cannot replace good handwashing. Be sure to wash your hands after using the restroom, sneezing or coughing, or touching your face to help keep our community healthy.
Allergies?
If your student has a health plan that includes an Antihistamine (Benadryl), please be aware that you must provide it. If your child has an allergic reaction or potential exposure to allergen and you have not provided it, we will have to call 911 per the regulations and guidelines of OHA/ODE/CCESD.
