From the Principal...
What an amazing last week! After a rainy Halloween, we were able to rally around our hometown Houston Astros and win the World Series!!! To top the cake, Buckalew's PTO hosted an amazing Boosterthon Fun Run Fundraiser, raising over $34,000! Thanks to YOU, our pledges were received from 46 states AND 15 countries and our students earned a Popsicle Party after lunch, and Crazy Hat Day on November 17th.
PTO and our Buckalew Staff want to give you a big thank you to ALL of you who helped in our Fall Fundraiser. We had an amazing week with "Mega Mike" and "Royal Rachel" (in photo above)! Raising $34,000, leaves less than $96,000 to continue to raise in our ambitious goal this year!!! This money and all future fundraisers continue to go toward our NEW playgrounds that are original, and in much need of replacement; as well as the annual operating budget of the PTO.
PTO would like to specifically thank all the volunteers who decorated the school and to all those who helped the event run so smoothly marking laps and serving water. Our students enjoyed learning about focus, creativity, respect, trustworthiness, self-awareness and being a life learner with Castle Quest videos from our fabulous Boosterthon team.
As you can see, we are unveiling our NEW Buckalew BUZZ! We will be using this accessible format for our Buzz and hope you find it easier to read. Please know that we send this out every 2 weeks, and it is PACKED with information we hope you find helpful. It is also saved to reference on our website. More specific grade level communication will continue to come directly from your child's teacher.
Have a wonderful week!!!
Mrs. Price

Careers: We encourage students to begin to think about the different careers they can choose as they get older.
College: We all wear college shirts and talk about college.
What's next in this road to college? The next step after Buckalew is intermediate school, then junior high, then high school. We discuss transitions of school settings on our educational pathway.
Opportunities other than college: We learn about careers that require training other than a 4 year or above college degree.
How will I pay for college? We teach students the value of saving for their own future and education.
Lunch Information:
A Full Price student meal is $2.85 and for a 2nd meal is $3.55. “Extras” range from $.50-$2.00.
Did you know you can put limits on your child’s account? You can limit your child to one complete lunch so your child is getting the complete lunch on the menu.
You can also limit your daily expenditures or snack choices or ala carte by calling our cafeteria at 281-465-3467.
GT Nominations due Wednesday, December 20th
The window is now open for parent nominations for GT Screening and will continue through December 20. Parents may nominate their student for Spring GT Testing by completing the District Nomination Form, available through any 2nd, 3rd or 4th grade teacher, or by asking Belinda in the front office. Parents may now nominate, one time per level of test. In other words, students may test once each school year to see if they meet district requirements and /or qualify in other subject areas. GT testing will be held at Buckalew during the school day during the weeks of January 29-February 2 and February 5-9. Nomination forms may be returned to your student’s 2nd, 3rd or 4th grade teacher OR to Belinda in the front office. ALL NOMINATION forms are due NO LATER THAN December 20!
