A Message from the Principal
Dear Weiss Families,
Our teacher/staff appreciation week is off to a great start!! So much of this is due to all our amazing families volunteering their time, sending in donations, and contributing to our PTO's gifts! This year has been successful because of our wonderful staff, students, families, and community members. During this first week of May, we celebrate teacher/staff Appreciation Week. We will do this by showing our love and appreciation for our staff who give so selflessly to our children. We all recognize the sacrifices our staff make, the passion they show every day, and the empathy they display that cultivates a thriving learning community! I am so glad to celebrate our staff with all of you.

CLASSROOM ENVIRONMENT REQUEST 22-23: DEADLINE IS MAY 6TH
Dear Weiss Families,
At this time each year, staff members begin to look forward to the next year by discussing class placements for students. It may seem early; however, many factors are considered before making classroom placement recommendations. It is a big task that requires much time and thought.
To ensure balanced class lists and successful school experiences for all students, factors such as gender, academic performance, student strengths and weaknesses, and peer relations are well thought out. Even teacher traits are considered in the process to attempt to match students and teachers.
Parents sometimes have teacher preferences; however, we cannot place children in classes only on the basis of the parents’ preference. You are welcome to complete our CLASSROOM ENVIRONMENT REQUEST SURVEY AT THIS LINK, for your child for next school year. Your input is valued and will be taken into consideration. This environment survey will remain open through Friday, May 6th, 2022.
Downriver STEM at Weiss Elementary is filled with talented and hardworking teachers that are dedicated to the success of each and every child that enters our doors.
Sincerely,
Mr. Bezeau
Principal

MSTEP Information
Dear 3rd and 4th and 5th Grade Parents,
The year is quickly flying by! This means our state’s standardized test (M-STEP) is quickly approaching. We are working hard at Weiss to simply encourage students to do their best!
We can make your child’s test experience positive and successful by working together. I ask you to take the time to do these little things and help your child reach their fullest potential on their testing days in April and May:
- Talk with your child about goals for this test.
- Make sure your child gets a good night of rest.
- Have your child eat a healthy breakfast at home or at school on the morning of the test.
- Make sure your child arrives at school with plenty of time to prepare for the test (rushing around never makes for a calm child!)
- Gently encourage your child to do their best and show what they know!
The dates your child will test for the M-STEP are:
April 26th: 3rd Grade ELA Test
April 27th: 5th Grade ELA Test
May 3rd: 5th Grade Social Studies Test
May 4th: 4th Grade ELA Test
May 5th: 3rd Grade Math Test
May 10th: 5th Grade Math Test
May 11th: 4th Grade Math Test

Thank you for your support! If any dates change, your child's classroom teacher will contact you through parent square. If you have any questions you can reach out to your classroom teacher or to me!

School Happenings
This was our second annual “Blowing Bubbles for Autism” event here at Weiss. As a school, we blew bubbles together to spread messages of hope, joy, support, and acceptance of neurodiversity and Autism Spectrum Disorders.
This event was developed 16 years ago in a preschool classroom in New Jersey. It has grown each year with tens of thousands of people all over the world participating every April during Autism Acceptance Month.
We had our PBIS party last week. The student did Minute to Win It games. Thank you to the parents who volunteered and helped run it! We had a blast!
