Pleasant Union Excels in State Report Card
Pleasant Union's State Report Card for the 2016-17 school year was outstanding. Our student growth was among the highest in Wake County and the state. Go to Report Cards to see how we did and compare to other schools in the state. This is a tribute to our excellent teachers and support from our parents to ensure that our students are successful. Well done Pleasant Union!!

THANK YOUS GO OUT TO...
A tremendous thank you to Natalie Wilson for coordinating this year's holiday shop. We got many compliments from the teachers and the administration on how smooth the shop ran this year and we beat last year's fundraising by $500 which was awesome. Also, many thank yous to all of the parents that volunteered their time to help make this year's holiday shop successful. Your help is ALWAYS greatly appreciated.
The PTA would like to thank all of the parents that brought their children out on Thursday night to view our Polar Express. What a great way to kick off the holiday season at PUE!
Additionally, another THANK YOU to all parents that attended the very important meeting on Thursday night regarding the legislation surrounding HB13, the Classroom Size Compromise. This legislation will directly impact the Wake County Public School System. Please refer to the PTA website to access the Pleasant Union Request for the NC General Assembly to Stop the Unfunded Class Size Mandate. Parents are welcome to leave their letter in the PTA Correspondence inbox in the front office and we will mail the mandate revision letters on your behalf.
Our last LAST THANK YOU goes out to the After School staff that supervised Friday evening's Parents' Night Out. Thank you to Rob Bigan, Debbie DeStefano, Joyce Baginski, Leslie Hobbs, Kenna Martin, Ms. Hannah , Mr. Josh and Mr. Evan. The 6:30-9:30 event was a big hit evan with the surprise visit of snowy weather.

Education Matters to Discuss K-3 Class Size Mandate
This weekend WRAL-TV and FOX 50 will air an encore of the September 15th episode of Education Matters that covered the K-3 class size mandate and how it is affecting schools and students across the state. The issue remains unresolved as school districts scramble to find classroom space and teachers to meet the General Assembly’s requirements without sacrificing Pre-K classes, hundreds of Art, Music and PE instructors or ballooning class sizes and eliminating academic offerings in the upper grades.
Guests Include:
- Jazzmone Sutton, Music Teacher, Wake County, President-Elect, NC Music Educators Association (pictured above, right)
- Gussie Marshallsea, Visual Arts Teacher, Wake County
- Aaron Marcin, Principal, Lead Mine Elementary, Wake County
- Kathy Hartenstine, Wake County School Board, Retired Principal
Education Matters airs Saturdays at 7:30 p.m. on WRAL-TV. Be sure to check your local cable channel listing for other airing dates.

Kind Coins for Hurricane Relief
The K-Kids continues its Kind Coins for Hurricane Relief for the rest of December and then in January. Students can bring loose change to school to support this project. K-Kids will be in the hall collecting coins until January 11, 2018. Thank you for your support.
Kind Coins for Hurricane Relief is a unifying service project to respond to the destruction of the 2017 hurricane season. For every $50,000 raised, we will build a new playground at a hurricane-affected school. All students, families, and communities are invited to participate.
Where does the money go? 100% of the raised funds will go to hurricane-affected schools in Texas, Florida, Louisiana, and Puerto Rico. All collected money is mailed to Kids for Peace (501c3 #26-1564351), the nonprofit that hosts the Great Kindness Challenge. Kids for Peace will not take an administrative fee. Kids for Peace is partnering with our Great Kindness Challenge schools to build the playgrounds.
