Centennial's "Newsday Tuesday"!
Centennial Elementary Families' Weekly Newsletter 4/4/2023
A note from the principal . . .
Hi, Centennial Families!
I hope this note finds you and yours happy and safe today... we love you and are so grateful for our amazing Centennial community. Thank you for all you are doing to advance excellence at Centennial!
If you, or someone you know in our Centennial community, has been negatively impacted by Friday's wildfires, would you please email me here with "wildfire impact" in the subject line? We'd like to check in on all affected! We are wishing all of you well!
It's time, already, to think about planning for our next school year!
(We will finish this year strong, of course, but we need your help to set us up for success next school year!)
To create the best classes for each student next year, please provide valuable feedback regarding your child's individual needs.
Parents, we'd love to have your help in the Cafeteria!
We appreciate you a Happy Easter this weekend!
With kind regards,
Ellie Webb, Principal
Video Games, Books, Social Media and the Internet: Resources to Keep Kids Safe
Also in regards to student safety, this research report (K-12 EdTech Benchmark, shared with principals by our Edmond Public Schools Technology Director), found that:
- "Nearly all apps (96%) share children’s personal information with third parties . . . typically without the knowledge or consent of the users. . . making them unsafe
- 28% of apps were Non-Education Specific, such as . . .YouTube or Spotify, effectively providing no limits or guardrails for children
- Google dominates K12 edtech as the prime supplier of both hardware and software, raising questions about the safety of having children deeply connected to the internet by the world’s leading advertising platform
What should I know About Anime and Manga?
Resources to Help
Organizations like the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP), the Center on Media and Child Health and the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) recommend several other ways parents can help keep their children safe on cellphones and online.
As a support for your families, I hope that you find these resources helpful in empowering you to make the right decisions for your child and family.
Thank you for your help with keeping Centennial safe!
Ellie Webb
