Parker Updates
Teachers will be discussing summer school for students who need to attend at Parent/Teacher Conferences. Summer School will be Monday-Thursday, June 5th-29th from 8:00am-12:00pm. Students will be required to attend summer school if they have a D or F in a core class or have at least 16 unexcused absences for the school year. Teachers will also be recommending students that are tracking behind grade level in reading or math.
We will have a Distance Learning Day on Thursday, February 2nd. Students will have assignments loaded no later than 8:00am in each course to compete. If you do not have wifi for your child to complete their work, please contact our office at 918-423-4647 for options.
Our PE Coaches have asked that a reminder be sent about students wearing "gym-appropriate" or tennis shoes on their PE days. 6th graders have PE on Monday & Tuesday. 5th graders have PE on Wednesday, Thursday & Friday.

REMIND NOTIFICATIONS
We are transitioning to the Remind platform for school notifications. For the month of February, I will be sending out school messages and newsletters on eNotes and Remind. If you are not getting the newsletter, please contact our office for help.
AR
AR Goals for Quarter 3 have been reset! All students are completing a novel study in their reading classes that should help them meet the majority of their goal. Students will need to be present at school to ensure they are able to participate in the novel discussion. Students are also able to read articles in the AR platform for points or if there is a book that they want to read that doesn't have a test, our librarian is able to create a google form of comprehension questions and award points.TUTORING
Quarter 3 tutoring began on Monday, January 9th. If you would like your child signed up for tutoring, email their reading or math teacher.
SPRING SPORTS
We will be offering several options for students to participate in Spring Sports. Our coaches are working to schedule games and meets. We will send out information later in January and practices will begin in February.
Reminders for Parents and Students
IXL:
- Students are assigned several IXL's in Rdg, Math, Science and Writing every Monday. Teachers give a small amount of time in their daily class period for kids to work on their IXL's and get help if needed. Students will need to work on these as homework also. All IXL's are due by the end of each week.
AR:
- 5th grade students get a weekly grade based on a percentage of their 9 weeks AR goal. 6th grade students will get 1 grade for the 9 weeks for completing their AR goal.
Academic Detention:
- We offer academic detention for kids who did not complete their work by the Friday deadline and allow them to come in the following week from 3:00-4:00pm to work with a teacher to do the late work. This is a service to our students and families instead of giving a permanent zero on the assignment. We also have After School Homework help until 4:00pm for students who want help with their weekly assignments and to stay caught up in their classes. Assignments cannot be made up if they are more than a week late.
- Morning recess is from 7:30-7:45am. We will continue to have morning recess unless it is raining. The 6th grade car line will shut down at 7:30am and all students will need to be dropped off in the front circle. In the event that it is raining, we will keep the 6th grade car line open so students can be dropped off at the awning.
- All students need to be in class by 7:45am to not receive a tardy. Per the MPS Handbook, students will receive 1 after school detention (3-4pm) for every tardy after their 5th tardy. We give 5 free tardies before they start receiving detention. Failure to serve detention will result in students being excluded from special events at school.
- If your child is struggling with getting into their locker, you are able to purchase and send a combination lock or key lock to put on the locker. They are required to give the office a key or the combination in case we need to open their locker or the lock will be cut off in case of a search.
Please remember that 5th grade parents use the front circle driveway and 6th grade parents use the north entrance driveway to pick up your child after school. If you are picking up a 5th and 6th grader, you will pick up both students in the front circle drive.
Don't forget to remind your child:
- To charge their Chromebook at night and to bring it to school each morning. They need to leave their charger at home.
- To bring a refillable water bottle to school each day. We do have water bottles available to check out each day for use but they will need to be turned in to be washed/sanitized after school by our cafeteria staff.
What if students forget their Chromebook?
- Students will call home if they forget their Chromebook.
- If it cannot be brought to them, they will be able to check out a loaner laptop for the day.
- If a student does not bring their charged laptop to school and it cannot be brought to them, they will be able to check out a loaner laptop, but they will also receive 1 day of detention. **Students will get a one time "free pass" for forgetting their Chromebook.
- We are working on teaching responsibility. Their Chromebook serves as their textbook, notebook and they will complete all work on their device. Showing up without their Chromebook is like coming to school without those supplies.
