Orana Catholic Primary School
Term 3 Week 6 2022
Excellence
Our community values an attitude of enthusiastically applying energy and effort to become better learners. Excellence is evident when:
• we do our best to develop our talents and share them with others
• we have high expectations of what we can achieve
• we take risks and experiment with the way we learn
• we work hard to do our best work
• we celebrate our achievements
Prayer for our School Community
Loving Father, Thank you
for all who are part of our school. Please grant them your encouragement, wisdom and peace.
Strengthen our staff
May they be firm, yet patient, expecting excellence but forgiving mistakes.
May they support their students, playing to strengths, helping with struggles and motivating them to do their best.
Comfort and restore
those living under shadows of unhappiness. May many find faith, discovering their identity in You and knowing Your amazing grace in their lives.
Please pour out Your blessings
upon our whole school community.
In Jesus’ name.
Amen
Dear Parents and Carers,
This week in the school calendar has been a time to showcase the talents of our students and the wonderful community spirit at Orana.
Last Friday evening, I attended the band section of the Catholic Performing Arts Festival. Our band played magnificently. Thank-you also to the band for creating a wonderful ambiance during Open Night. On Monday, the junior choir wowed the audience with their vibrant performance. The students enjoyed performing as much as the parents enjoyed the entertainment. The senior choir put on an excellent performance today. Their songs were performed to an excellent standard, showcasing their commitment and talent. Well done again to Sarah Draper for her leadership of the Music program at Orana.
On Tuesday, our Year 6 students participated in the MHL inter-school carnival. It was great to hear about the students participating with team spirit and enthusiasm. Thank-you to Tayla Dennett, the Year 6 staff and the parents that assisted.
Open Night was a highlight of the term calendar. The school had a wonderful community vibe on Tuesday evening, with excited children showing their parents their work, classrooms and other areas of the school. The Book Fair and the Plant Sale were both very popular, as was the sausage sizzle. At this stage the plant sale has raised just over $650 which will provide about 400 meals to the homeless. Thank-you to the staff for all their work in prepping and presenting the classrooms and learning areas, to the Graduation Committee for providing dinner, Sarah Draper and the band for the entertainment, the Social Justice Committee for running the plant stall and all the parents and guests for attending.
Our Book Week parade was a fantastic event. Encouraging students to develop a love of literature is so important. Thank-you to the parents for your time and effort to make costumes for the 2022 theme ‘Dreaming with eyes open’. There were some truly amazing costumes.
Please assist with the flow of traffic around the school in the mornings by vacating the carpark once you are in your car, so another person can park.
Later this year, Orana is scheduled to have an independent audit to ensure we meet the Non-Government Schools Registration Standards. This process occurs every 5 years. As part of this process, you are invited to give feedback to the reviewer. Please click on the link to the parent survey.
Correctly wearing our school uniform is one way that students can demonstrate our school value of Excellence. We encourage students to wear the uniform with pride as they represent themselves, their families and their school. Teachers will be following up with reminders for students that do not follow the uniform guidelines. Please note the following hair and accessory guidelines which I have noticed recently have not been followed by some students.
· Hair that is longer than the collar length needs to be tied back and off the face, using blue or white hair ties or plain clips.
· No extreme hairstyles are permitted; this includes, but is not limited to, mohawks, part or complete head shaving (such as patterns), dyed hair.
· Make-up and nail polish are not acceptable.
· A watch and a plain chain with a small holy symbol is permitted.
· Plain studs or small sleepers are permitted (dangly earrings are not permitted due to safety reasons).
Monday is a pupil free day. We hope you are able to enjoy a long weekend to reset after the busy first half of the term. Students return to school on Tuesday 30th August.
God bless and take care

Faith in Action
This morning Fr CJ visited the Year Two classes. Fr discussed with the students how we can pray anywhere, including at school, in the car, at home, in the park and at church. The children prayed with Fr and learnt that the word Amen means YES, WE BELIEVE. Fr CJ spoke to the classes about being a priest and how God made the world.
Thank you to Fr CJ for visiting Orana and teaching us about God.

SOCIAL WORKER NEWS
Staying calm and being organised in the morning will help you and your child feel positive about the day ahead. It will also help you reduce stress, which is good for everyone’s wellbeing.
One of the best ways to stay calm and get organised is to have a morning routine for school. A routine will help your child know what’s happening and remember what they need to do.
