Thornhill Night at the A's
It's just one week away...The annual Thornhill Night at the A's sponsored by the Thornhill Dads Club!
That's right, on Friday, April 21, this annual event will take place when the Oakland A's face the Seattle Mariners (the hometown and favorite team of your humble newsletter editor, Rex Crum). Thornhill Elementary School students, parents and their friends and families can purchase discounted tickets in two different seating sections.
Tickets cost $32 for Field Level seats and $20 for the Plaza Outfield section. A portion of each ticket sold will go directly back to the school. Tickets have to be purchased through the above link in order for Thornhill to get its donation credit from the A's.
Dads Club is also pleased to host the Tailgate Party BBQ from 5-7 p.m. before the game in Parking Lot B, Area 1. Dinner will be fully catered by Maverick's BBQ of Concord! They’ll serve big burgers (1/3 lb), hot dogs, veggie burgers, and a selection of gourmet sides. Dads Club will provide beer and wine. Advance tickets can be purchased online or cash at the door.
And...to get the kids fired up for the game, the A’s mascot, Stomper, stopped by Thornhill on Wednesday, April 12. Stomper posed for photos with many students before school started and got everyone excited for next Friday night's game.
If all of that isn't enough to get you parents in the mood for the ballgame, remember this...The A's have cut the price of beer at games this year, too. All the more reason to attend.
Stomper brought out the smiles at Thornhill on Wednesday
Here Comes the Read-A-Thon!
The Thornhill Read-a-Thon officially starts on Monday, April 17 with our kickoff assembly at 8:50 a.m.. Parents are welcome to stay and learn more about the Read-a-Thon!
Don’t miss all the fun events we have planned during the Read-a-Thon: Dine Out Nights at The Star, Tuesday April 18, and Fenton’s on Tuesday, May 2. The proceeds from the Dine Out Nights will go towards the Read-a-Thon! Don’t miss the Pajama Night Read-In, Thursday, April 20, from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m.!
Watch for the flyer coming home with your student, which contains instructions on how to set up each reader’s unique Read-a-Thon page. The sooner the page is set up, the sooner we can start raising money for the Read-a-Thon! You simply need to reach out to friends and family to sponsor your reader. Sponsors donate directly through a student's webpage, and leave fun and motivating messages for the students while they’re at it.
The more sponsors, the more prizes for your student, and the more funding for all the great programs at Thornhill! Remember, 90 percent of the funds raised by the Read-a-Thon are donated to the school, with 15 percent going to the readers as prizes. And the class that raises the most donations will get an ice cream party!
Thanks for supporting the Read-a-thon!

Pennies For Patients Fundraiser
Our annual Pennies for Patients penny drive to benefit the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society is underway!
Each classroom will have a donation box. Please bring in pennies, nickels, dimes, quarters, half-dollars, dollar coins, and bills of all sizes...Last year, we donated over $1,000 – Let’s do it again!! We’ll run the donation drive through mid-May.
A few Pennies for Patients facts:
- Thornhill is one of hundreds of schools across the nation participating in this donation program.
- Money raised will go towards cancer research, especially for children with leukemia and blood cancer.
- Leukemia is a blood disease. It affects our body’s production of healthy blood cells.
- Approximately 17,692 children of all ages in the SF Bay Area are affected by different forms of blood cancer, including leukemia.
- We can help! Every cent counts! Just 7 cents a day can help a patient with his or her doctor visits.
Thank You!
Yours truly,

Doug's Drama Camp at Montclair Elementary
Do your children act dramatic at home?
Do you ever think, "This kid should win an Oscar for this performance" as he or she pleads with you to have waffles for breakfast for the 18th-straight morning?
Well, then get your aspiring Daniel Day-Lewis or Meryl Streep on stage.
These are full day camps with extended care from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Details at http://www.dougsdrama.com/
Auction Karma
Just one more school to go! We need you.

Earth Day Activities
Help Thornhill Dads Club celebrate Earth Day! We’re hosting a week long e-waste collection event right at the school.
Bring your old computers, TVs, microwaves, phones, printers, and cables/cords to the school starting this coming Monday, April 17. During the week of April 17-21, from 9 a.m.-4 p.m. daily, you can drop your donations into one of our e-waste bins, located on Alhambra Lane alongside the school building (next to the large dumpster area). TDR Electronic Recycling will pick up the bins on Friday.
Please Note: we can’t accept alkaline batteries, light bulbs, or major appliances.
Thornhill Dads Club is also searching for a few dads willing to take on a bigger role in running the Club next school year.
Did you know that half of our Steering Committee chairs will need to be succeeded in Fall 2017? We’re looking for a few good men.Our last meeting of the year is coming up next Thursday, April 20, 8-9:30 p.m. at Monaghan’s. As always the meeting is no host, adults-only, open to all, free to attend. Give us an hour: you’ll hear about some of the easy ways to contribute to the Club’s success …and drink BEER doing it!
