3:45 pm is Student Pick Up Time
Our school day officially ends at 3:35 pm. When parents arrive to pick up students early, this disrupts instruction, as most classroom routines use every minute of the day.
We have had several more parents beginning to pick up students from school. Students are dismissed at 3:35 pm for the early buses, and 3:45 pm for parent pick up. Our kindergarten and first grade students are are dismissed a little earlier so they don't get overwhelmed by the crowd of older students. In order to make sure all students get to their proper location, it is important for parents to be patient and wait for their children to be dismissed at their scheduled time.
If you need to make a change to your child’s normal routine you need to send a note with your child in the morning. If it is an emergency, you must call and speak to a secretary before 2pm. Do not leave a message on the school answering service. The answering service is to report absences only, and it is not checked throughout the day. Our goal is to get every student safely to their correct destination at the end of each day. We need your help to make sure this happens.
Help Stop the Summer Slide!
As the school year begins to wind down we need to think of what we can do to keep students thinking and learning throughout the summer. Too often, students have fun over the summer, but don't open a book or practice their math facts. They come back to school in the Fall and are disappointed to find they aren't remembering the things they had learned the year before. Your brain needs exercise too! Our teachers are putting together summer challenges for reading and math this year. Look for them to come home with your child at the end of the school year. (They will also be available online, too)
In addition to this, the state of Missouri has introduced “Read MOre, Missouri!” a statewide summer reading challenge to prevent summer slide; and the Missouri Summer Math Challenge.
I encourage you to check them out, and add a little reading and math practice to your summer of fun!
