Our Path Note Topic
This week is Thanksgiving. There are some people, as an organization for kids, that I am grateful for--some unsung heroes in schools. They support so many.
Our Food Service Department-- Thank you for all you do for our students. You prepare and serve meals to kids no matter who they are and where they come from. No child has to go home hungry with you all around.
Our Maintenance and Custodial Department-- Thank you for keeping our buildings clean. Our buildings are open and heated/AC'd when we arrive first thing in the morning. You clean off the sidewalks and clear the snow from the parking lots.
Our Clerical/Administrative Assistants-- Thank you for providing communication to us. Thank you for keeping the school going by processing phone calls, letters, etc. You take care of our kids, our parents and us when issues arise.
Our Classroom Support People-- Thank you for being there for our students. You make connections with kids that need an adult connection and support system. You help kids make progress and growth. You help make our jobs easier.
For all of you, thank you for being part of us here at Waynesboro!

Piece of the Puzzle
This Week's Piece of the Puzzle is thanking all of those who work or serve the school district. Custodians, cafeteria workers, administrative assistants, paraprofessionals, student assistants, teachers, administrators, substitutes, board members, and everyone else who serve our students, families, and community educational interests. Without one of these folks, we are not as good.
Have a wonderful and deserved Thanksgiving break!
New Policies
Suggested revisions and new policies come from the PA School Board Association, board members, staff, administration, and others. The proposed policy goes to the Policy Committee for review. The Policy Committee will either approve the proposed policy to go to full board for review and adoption, or will deny or wait for a different time to revisit it.
Even though it will not be weekly, stay tuned for any new and/or recently adopted policies in this section.

Rainbow fentanyl is an emerging trend used by drug cartels to sell fentanyl — disguised as candy — to children and young people. Food Policy Update: White House National Strategy on Hunger, Nutrition and Health
Of particular note: Modernize federal programs so enrolled individuals can more easily utilize benefits. Many federal programs were established decades ago. To bring federal nutrition assistance programs into the 21st century:
- USDA, through support from ARP funds, will expand online shopping in WIC.
- Online shopping is currently only being piloted in a small number of WIC state agencies.
- USDA will also propose to update regulations to make the SNAP online shopping program permanent and continue to add more online retailers and states to the existing program.
- Online shopping can expand access to healthy food and break down barriers for marginalized communities and older adults who may face discrimination or stigma, increased health risks, or have limited mobility or transportation.
- Additionally, SNAP participants are not currently able to use their benefits to purchase certain prepared foods, which limits choices for families shopping at SNAP-authorized retailers.
- And, as WIC comes up for renewal by Congress, the Administration supports addressing WIC eligibility limitations to avoid nutrition gaps during key stages of life.
