Dear Families and Community Members,

We've had an exciting week here at Goshen Center School! On Monday, we had CPR training for grades 5 and 6. On Tuesday, our AMAZING students showed off their many and exceptional talents at the GCS Talent Show, and in the afternoon we had a fun-filled time during our GCS Field Day. Although the temperature was hot, the students enjoyed many events including plenty of water activities. Yesterday was Flag Day, and I had the opportunity to welcome students to school dressed up like Uncle Sam. Earlier today, we were entertained by an incredible performance by Calliope Brass, a brass quintet and this afternoon we held our Kindergarten end of year celebration! This evening we will honor our very own and special Sue Carpenter for a retirement open house here in the GCS cafeteria from 4:30 -6:30. All are welcome to attend so, please join us to thank Sue for her amazing service to our school community and wish her well in her retirement! On tomorrow's schedule, we are having a dance Spirit Day. Students can wear apparel from the 50’s, 60's, 70's, 80, 90's or present time. We will be dancing periodically throughout the day to these different genres.

The GCS student council sponsors this Spirit day. We will also be having our Prek celebrations in the morning and afternoon as well.

Sincerely,

Tracy Keilty

CPR Training for 5th and 6th grade

CPR Training

Monday afternoon was important for the 5th & 6th graders at GCS. Mrs. Tina Torizzo, a Goshen EMT, volunteered her time to talk with the students about the importance of learning CPR. She not only demonstrated the appropriate actions but went over the procedures to try and save a life. Each student took a turn to practice the technique. Students asked excellent questions about CPR for adults, children, and even pets. Thank you, Mrs. Torizzo for this very educational and important class!

Calliope Brass Quintet Performance

Today students and staff at Goshen Center School had the opportunity to hear the live performance of the brass quintet, Calliope Brass. This musical ensemble is comprised of two trumpet players, one french horn player, one trombone player, and one tuba/bass trombone player. This interactive educational show educated students about brass instruments and musical concepts, while also reinforcing English and Language Arts concepts. The excitement continued throughout the day as students discussed the musical performance and literacy connections in music class and with their classroom teachers.

Book Tasting

GCS 4th, 5th, and 6th grade were cordially invited to a “Book Tasting” hosted by Mrs. Leifert and Mrs. Farrell. This event was held to promote summer reading and to introduce students to different genres of books. The students would select a book, look through it, and do a quick survey. There were many titles that students were interested in and encouraged to visit their local library this summer. The event ended with sweet tea, cookies, and conversation about the books they enjoyed.

Parents and Guardians,

On Friday, June 16th, please send your child to school wearing apparel from the 50’s to present time. We will be dancing periodically throughout the day to these different genres.

Summer Garden Maintenance

Over the next few weeks, GCS students will be readying the beds, sowing seeds and transplanting plants into the Garden of Life for this year’s growing season!

Through sustainable, organic practices the garden brings life-long, authentic learning into the lives of our students who work hard to collaboratively bring the garden to life. Throughout the summer, the delicious, nutritious produce is enjoyed by those in need at area soup kitchens and food banks and by families maintaining the garden. Upon arrival back to school in the fall, students enjoy the freshly picked produce and the GCS community is invited to join us at our Harvest Luncheon to enjoy the dishes each class freshly prepared.

The outreach, celebrations, and success of the garden would not be possible without the help of families maintaining the garden during the summer.

We are seeking families to sign-up for one week. (Consider sharing the week with another family!) If your family is able to help, please fill out this form.

BOX TOPS

Please continue to clip Box Tops off your favorite products! Ten cents doesn't sound like much but they add up fast and help the PTO provide Enrichment opportunities for GCS students. If possible, ask other family members, co-workers and neighbors to collect them as well. This is a quick reminder that at the end of each month the classroom that has collected the most Box Tops gets a prize. See the below attachment for a list of products that have Box Tops on their labels.

A big thank you to our BTFE coordinators, Heike Robillard and Chrissy Steward.

Thank you!
