Building Committee Chooses a Preferred Model
The current building complex is over 50 years old. It has served us very well, but it was designed for a different kind of teaching and learning -- for a time before classroom technology. Our future students need updated science, vocational, and arts spaces to prepare for college and career in the 21st Century!
With the cooperation of the Massachusetts School Building Authority (MSBA), which will help the towns by paying for at least 50% of the project, a committee of citizens, town leaders, and school personnel has been meeting with building planners and architects to create renovation and rebuilding scenarios. After multiple Building Committee meetings, a public survey, public outreach at the Spencer Fair and Prouty Pride Night, and two public forums, the Building Committee has voted on the preferred model -- a major renovation with an addition.
Over the next year, you will hear more and more about the Building Project as the model and plans take their final shape. There will be opportunities for students, parents, and community members to get involved. If we all work together, young students currently attending Knox Trail, East Brookfield Elementary, and Wire Village School will graduate from a newly renovated David Prouty High School!!!
