Third Grade News!

Week of December 7

She works hard for the money by

Dear Families and Friends,

The sun is back! Though it hasn't provided much warmth for us! Please continue sending in coats, gloves and hats with your child each day, as we will continue to go out for recess and PE as long as the temperature stays above 40 degrees!

This week and next, students will be studying the genre of poetry in their reading groups. We will be going on a field trip to the Crozet Public Library next Tuesday, December 15 to read a few poems with head librarian Ms. Saz, and go on a scavenger hunt to explore the poetry section! Please contact me if you would like to join us!

The next major event on our CCE (Claytor Crozet Eagles) Market Day timeline is starting production and preparing for Market Day, which will be the morning of Friday, December 18. Each student has their Market planning sheet to use in preparation for Market Day. Ideas range from nature crafts to baked goods to dance lessons! It will be an exciting market for sure! If your child has not started producing their good, please encourage them to do so! I will have a warehouse open this week so students can use their CCE bucks to purchase any resources they will need for production. Please let me know if you can think of anything that will help your child out so I can put in the CCE warehouse! Please note that there is no required amount to produce. Your child may produce as many goods as they think they can sell!

This week we are continuing to learn about Ancient Greece! We will be learning about the geography, resources, economy, government, art, architecture and major contributions of this ancient civilization. Our culminating project will be a Greco-Roman Festival the afternoon of December 18 from 1:00-2:15pm. Below you will find a link to a Google form where you can sign up to bring in Greek and Roman goodies or run a station! If we have enough volunteers; we will be creating masks for theater, competing in olympics, and creating Roman mosaics! Please let me know if you are interested in volunteering!

If you have any questions regarding production or Market Day or anything else, please let me know. I hope you have a fantastic rest of your week!

Fluffy is geared up to vote!

Did you know in Ancient Greece, you were only considered a citizen if you were a free male, over the age of 18, and born in the city of Athens!? We will be trying out a Direct Democracy in our classroom this week. This means the boys will be doing all of our voting! Not fair, huh ladies!!? Find out more about Ancient Greece by watching the Brain pop video below. Username: crozet Password: star

The Bank of CCE is Open for business!

The Claytor Crozet Eagles (CCE) have been busy this week! In the Tuesday folder this you will see a filled out pay sheet. Each day students keep up with their own pay sheet and the jobs they get paid for. Each Friday, students visit their paymaster to check their math and get approval to go to the Bank of CCE, where they get paid!

Learning about Homophones this week in Reading groups. Enjoy!

Between the Lions: Brian McKnight & Cleo sing "Homophones"

A bear that's not bare! The cutest example of a homophone I've ever see !

Alexis' share today reminded me that STUFFED ANIMAL DAY will be next Friday, December 18. Students can bring in any stuffed animal as long as it is easy to transport to and from school. We will have a lot going on, and are already bringing in a lot of stuff that day, between our Greco Festival and Market Day. If students would like to bring in animals earlier in the week to store, that's fine!

An Hour of Code

If you haven't had a chance to try coding, you should give it a try! This Monday Third graders buddied up to try out a variety of sites that allow you to code and even create your own game! We didn't quite get to an hour, but if you would like to continue coding at home, check out this link!

Congrats to Sammy!

For being our highest reader in November, and accounting for almost a forth of our overall minutes. In November, we read 10, 265 and were just shy of meeting our goal of 11,111. Our goal for December is 10,000 so please encourage your kiddo to read their heart out this month, at least 25 minutes a night!

Ice cream, Ice cream, we all READ for ice cream!

Last Friday students celebrated meeting their reading goal for the month of October. Ice cream sundaes were what the readers ordered! Unfortunately, we didn't meet our goal in November, so we didn't get a chance to celebrate! We could really use your help turning in reading logs this month!
