Third Grade News!
Week of December 7
She works hard for the money by firstname.lastname@example.org
Dear Families and Friends,
The sun is back! Though it hasn't provided much warmth for us! Please continue sending in coats, gloves and hats with your child each day, as we will continue to go out for recess and PE as long as the temperature stays above 40 degrees!
This week and next, students will be studying the genre of poetry in their reading groups. We will be going on a field trip to the Crozet Public Library next Tuesday, December 15 to read a few poems with head librarian Ms. Saz, and go on a scavenger hunt to explore the poetry section! Please contact me if you would like to join us!
The next major event on our CCE (Claytor Crozet Eagles) Market Day timeline is starting production and preparing for Market Day, which will be the morning of Friday, December 18. Each student has their Market planning sheet to use in preparation for Market Day. Ideas range from nature crafts to baked goods to dance lessons! It will be an exciting market for sure! If your child has not started producing their good, please encourage them to do so! I will have a warehouse open this week so students can use their CCE bucks to purchase any resources they will need for production. Please let me know if you can think of anything that will help your child out so I can put in the CCE warehouse! Please note that there is no required amount to produce. Your child may produce as many goods as they think they can sell!
This week we are continuing to learn about Ancient Greece! We will be learning about the geography, resources, economy, government, art, architecture and major contributions of this ancient civilization. Our culminating project will be a Greco-Roman Festival the afternoon of December 18 from 1:00-2:15pm. Below you will find a link to a Google form where you can sign up to bring in Greek and Roman goodies or run a station! If we have enough volunteers; we will be creating masks for theater, competing in olympics, and creating Roman mosaics! Please let me know if you are interested in volunteering!
If you have any questions regarding production or Market Day or anything else, please let me know. I hope you have a fantastic rest of your week!

Can I buy a vowel?
How much would your name be worth if vowels cost 1.00 and consonants cost .05? Students combined word study and math skills to solve this ten minute math problem. Ella noticed her name and mine cost the same!
This addicting game is a rendition of the classic, "Go Fish." In Go Collecting, students use strategy to collect pairs of collection cards, each worth a 2 or 3 digit numbers. If students collect a pair, they combine the numbers and add the sum to their total. Whoever has the most hundreds in the end is deemed the winner. We are having a Go Collecting tourny this week to keep our skills fresh.
A proud moment!
This week citizens of the CCE voted among 25 student created designs for the flag they will use. After voting, students (on their own) created a line plot to help organize and analyze the results. I stood back and watched in awe as they very correctly analyzed real data and chose their flag designs. A video of line plot creation is below! Super job kiddos!
